You know Christmas is near, when Mac appears with tinsel on him.

After unpacking the decorations, I made sure Mac was posed for his Xmas special. It was a long winded, frustrating affair, but we got there in the end.

The festive efforts from previous years can be seen below:

This little waterfall is in the Panthertown Valley near Lake Toxaway, North Carolina. We set out on our hike looking for Greenland Creek Falls, but found this falls instead. Someday we'll go back and try to find Greenland Creek Falls.

New Haven Railroad PP716 Alco DL109 locomotive (former # 716) portable power plant is seen in the yard at Boston, Massachusetts, late 1950's. This locomotive was converted to a portable power plant in 1957, for use as a DC power generator to test the electrical gear found on the new lightweight trains and FL-9's. Seen along side PP716, are some MOW cars constructed of wood, that were probably former baggage, REA, or mail storage cars. PP716 was retired soon after the new lightweight trains proved to be a failure, but remained on the property until 1969, however it was scrapped in late 1970. It's really too bad that this last New Haven DL-109 was not saved.

MAC make over :)

This is the second mural I painted in Monterrey for the Seres Queridos project. The figure is Vitaliano Cerda, who runs a used book shop in the center of the city. I painted this one a little looser and faster than usual...black spraypaint with fatcaps, as usual. The red background designs were painted with roller and acrylics by Sanez, a super talented young artist from Monterrey. His designs often include a mix of animals native to northern Mexico and have a strong indigenous influence. Really cool stuff.

Não me agradou muito, devo refazer em breve ou não.

"Everyone loves mallards, and the simple act of feeding a duck is a quacking way of getting people closer to nature. But please don't feed Mac grain he is on a strict lego brick diet"

Mac has 11,200 bricks and took 100 hours of building time.

After spending the summer (2015) with their feathered friends at WWT Slimbridge, and Halloween at London Wetland Centre, the giant LEGO® brick animals headed north to WWT Martin Mere in Lancashire for Christmas. In February 2016 they will head over to WWT Castle Espie in Northern Ireland for February Half Term fun, before joining the GIANT Duck Hunt at WWT Washington for Easter.

The models were created by Bright Bricks, the UK’s only certified LEGO professionals, and Tom Poulsom, the famous LEGO brick ‘birdman’. In total, 123,200 LEGO bricks were used over 965 hours to make all 10 characters.

Mac and cheese was my favorite food when I was a kid. It may still be. This recipe originated (in my life) with my grandma, and was known as "Grandma-Mac," mostly to differentiate it from its popular cousin "Kraft Mac." My dad makes a mean "Daddy-Mac," and ever since I've learned how to make it, it's been "Ruthie-Mac" all the way.

To make 2 reasonable servings or one serving large enough to make yourself want to barf (my personal preference), cook 1 cup of dry macaroni noodles in salted boiling water on the stovetop until al dente.

In another saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter, then whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour and let the mixture cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Add 3/4 cup milk. Heat the mixture until it just starts to simmer, then stir with a whisk to make sure flour and butter get properly mixed in with the milk. Within a minute or two of simmering, the white sauce will thicken. Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in 2/3 cup sharp cheddar cheese.

Mix the cooked noodles with the sauce, top with copious amounts of fresh ground black pepper, and eat in front of the TV, preferably watching Melrose Place.

This recipe scales well to feed a large groups. Make sure to undercook the pasta a little bit, because it will soften some more after you drain it, and you don't want it to be all mushy.

No, these weren't part of the same dinner. Just some box mac and cheese I whipped up ahead of time so my husband had something to eat tomorrow between work and school. It was cooling off before going in the fridge. (And yes, this was also cooked in the time it took to make the one stinkin' pot of brown rice! lol)
