Así se podría resumir la aventura de ir a fotografiar el " Tren de los 80", rebautizado como Expreso Río Duero, por Zamora.
Todo estuvo a punto de irse al traste el día antes. La borrasca Mónica se habia encargado de barrer Galicia, donde no llovió, nevó. Y si bien lo primero no es ninguna novedad para los que habitamos estos parajes, lo segundo si. Y es que, a partir de los 600 metros de altitud, no solo nevó, sino que también cuajó, haciendo que la circulación por las zonas de alta montaña resultase bastante complicado.
Tal fue así que, desde A Gudiña hasta Vilavella nos tocó parapetarnos detrás de un camión. Se montó una buena ringlera de coches pero, pese a estar en una autovía, al estar los dos carriles cubiertos de nieve, nadie se atrevía a adelantar. Poco a poco fuimos avanzando hasta llegar a los túneles de A Canda y Padornelo. Finalmente, casi llegando a Otero de Sanabria, la autovía ya estaba mejor y pudimos recuperar algo del tiempo perdido.
Aunque intentamos llegar a un encuadre antes de la llegada del tren a Zamora, nos fue imposible por lo que, paramos a saludar a unos cuantos colegas en la estación, cogimos víveres y pusimos rumbo al Martín Gil.
Nos sobraba mucho tiempo por lo que decidimos aprovechar para comer y para explorar un poco la zona.
Las nubes venían y se iban por lo que nada nos aseguraba que pudiésemos tener una foto con sol. Afortunadamente, durante los más de tres minutos que le llevó al tren cruzar el viaducto, el sol dominó la escena, deleitándonos asi, con la imagen que os presento.

Algo más de 20 años después de que Manuel Fraga, como presidente de la Xunta de Galicia, y J.M. Aznar, como presidente del estado español, colocaran en julio de 2001 la primera piedra de la línea de alta velocidad Madrid - Galicia, hoy tendrá lugar la inauguración de la nueva línea, que entrará en servicio, mañana, 21 de diciembre.
La conexión entre Galicia y Madrid , a lo largo de estos 20 años. ha ido evolucionando lentamente.
La primera línea de ferrocarril directo entre Galicia y Ourense, fue la antigua Medina-Zamora-Ourense (MZO). Su planeamiento se remonta a la dictadura de Primo de Rivera, pero el estallido de la Guerra Civil, impidió que su construcción no se iniciase hasta 1939. En su tconstrucción trabajaron, mayoritariamente, carrilanos. Sobrenombre que recibían los presos republicanos condenados a trabajos forzados y que usaban una carrilana para transportar las escasas prertenecias que poseían. Aunque se desconoce, oficialmente, el número de falledidos durante las obras, debido a la censura franquista, la historia, ha demostrado que muchos de ellos fallecieron como consecuencia de las penosas condiciones de trabajo y de vida, así como en los numerosos accidentes laborales. Finalmente, la línea fue inaugurada el 8 de septiembre de 1958
Las obras de la nueva Línea de Alta Velocidad Madrid – Galicia, se desarrollaron de la siguiente forma. En un primer momento, se realizaron obras de mejora en la vieja MZO, que permitiesen reducir los tiempos de viaje. Como la nueva línea, discurre, en muchos tramos, en paralelo a la vieja, cuando se terminaban las obras en un tramo, éste, entraba en funcionamiento y se reducían los tiempos de viaje.
Para evitar “estrangular” el tráfico interior de Galicia, - o al menos, así lo vendieron- el tramo de esta nueva línea entre Santiago de Compostela y Ourense, se construyó en ancho ibérico y con parte del trazado protegido por ERTMS y una, pequeña parte, en AFA. Si bien, desde el gobierno autonómico y desde el estatal, se vendió la idea de que era una línea de alta velocidad. Como consecuencia de la falta de protección de máximo nivel en parte de su recorrido, y a un despiste del maquinista, el 24 de julio de 2013 un tren Alvia que viajaba de Madrid a Ferrol descarriló en la curva A Grandeira de Angrois, a unos tres kilómetros de la estación de Santiago de Compostela. De las 224 personas que viajaban a bordo —218 pasajeros y seis tripulantes—, 144 resultaron heridas y 80 fallecieron. Registrándose así el segundo accidente ferroviario más grave de la historia de España, solo superado por el de Torre del Bierzo.
Si la infraestructura es de vital importancia, para que se reduzcan los tiempos de viaje en condiciones de seguridad y comodidad, también lo es, la entrada en circulación de material rodante, más cómodo y veloz. Así, en este apartado, hemos evolucionado desde las antiguas locomotoras diésel de la serie 354 y los talgos pendulares, hasta los actuales 730 y 112, o, en un futuro, los Avriles.
Como consecuencia de la paulatina entrada en funcionamiento de los nuevos tramos de la nueva infraestructura y del nuevo material rodante, las conexiones entre Galicia y la capital del Estado, se han reducido, de las nueve horas de trayecto, en los ochenta, a, las actuales, tres horas desde Santiago de Compostela.
Volviendo a la fotografía, en ella vemos al Alvia 04325 Madrid Chamartín – Lugo serpenteando entre las Serra de Queixa y los Montes do Invernadoiro y dejando, a su derecha, el embalse de As Portas, en su camino hacia Ourense. A partir de hoy, esta fotografía será historia y la línea será usada únicamente por algún mercante.
Finalmente, disculpad, el testamento, que os acabo de escribir, pero, un hecho tan relevante para la historia de Galicia, merecía un análisis. Tras veinte años de obras, al fin Galicia tiene AVE con Madrid, y parafraseando al himno gallego, “os tempos son chegados”.
Am Mittag des 30.09.2017 war 151 119 vor den imposanten Leergüterzug 42980 Kufstein - Nördlingen gespannt. Die 42 Wagen der Bauart Eanos wurden dort wieder mit Bio-Zuckerrüben beladen, die in Schweiz geliefert wurden. Die eigentliche Planlok 140 856 lief abgebügelt mit.
Gerade für diese Lok hätte ich mir etwas mehr Herbstlaub und damit Kontrast gewünscht - zumal die Sonne sich gerade hinter einer Wolke versteckte.
Am Nachmittag des 29.06.2017 konnte ich den Diesel-Vectron 247 908 bei Eglharting fotografieren, der im Rahmen einer Lastprobefahrt einem Lokomotion-Zug nach München vorgespannt war. Leider versteckte sich die Sonne genau zu dieser Zeit hinter Wolken...
Am 22. Mai 2022 hatte der Urlaubs-Express 1312 von Sylt nach Salzburg eine satte Verspätung von zweieinhalb Stunden. Beim Weiler Neukirchen, zwischen Zorneding und Eglharting gelegen, konnte der mit der "Bügelfalte" 110 491 bespannte Zug fotografiert werden.
Am Mittag des 30.09.2017 konnte ich bei Zorneding die 151 074 von Lokomotion mit einem (sehr leisen) Klv-Zug aufnehmen, der in Richtung München unterwegs war.

Am Mittag des 22. Mai 2022 war das Doppel aus 189 902 und 189 914 von Lokomotion und RTC von München nach Rosenheim (und vermutlich über den Brenner weiter nach Italien) unterwegs und konnte beim Weiler Neukirchen fotografiert werden.
Auf der Strecken von München über Rosenheim nach Salzburg und Kufstein war die Baureihe 103 der DB nicht oft anzutreffen - für die Geschwindigkeiten im Alpenvorland reichten die Baureihen 111 der DB und Reihe 1044 in den 80er und 90er Jahren völlig aus.
Am 30. November 2024 bespannte die Museumslok 103 245 einen Sonderzug von Koblenz nach Salzburg und konnte an der östlichen Ausfahrt von Zorneding fotografiert werden - einige Sonderzüge hatten etliche Fotografen an die Strecke gelockt.
Anfang des Jahres 1989 konnte ich die grüne 151 021 in Zorneding aufnehmen, die mit einem gemischten Güterzug in Richtung München unterwegs war.
Am Mittag des 22. Mai 2022 wurde ich ein wenig von der 111 057 des Unternehmens Smartrail überrascht, die von München in Richtung Rosenheim unterwegs war. Die Aufnahme entstand beim Weiler Neukirchen, zwischen Zorneding und Eglharting gelegen.
Am 7. August 2021 konnte ich dank des Lokfinders den Roco-Taurus 1116 199 abpassen, der mit dem EC89 von München Hbf nach Innsbruck unterwegs war. Östlich von Zorneding fand sich eine Lücke für die zum 60-jährigen Jubiläum des Modellbahnherstellers gestaltete Lok.
McGill's purchased 55 of these Yutong E12's in 2021 with all being delivered in September and October in time for the UN's Climate Change Conference, COP26 in Glasgow at the beginning of November.

This place has had a few names and also several owners. It made soap products of all kinds and had been in Toronto's portlands area for almost 100 years. It was a huge complex that isn't currently very accessible, both because of the location and what's also going on around it, construction-wise.
This site was supposed to be reused and had been used as a filming location for almost a decade after it closed down. Gulf originally proposed that this would remain a work-focused site, but of course, it was later sold to CF and then demolition was in order and now it's supposed to be all condos vs. manufacturing or office space. Thank god for the power of the MZO bypass! 16 new condos seem like a much better deal in an isolated location.
These are photos from different periods. I was amazed at how this was one of the few buildings that felt much bigger inside than it looked outside. It also used to have a train layup next to it - which was quite hard to find in the '90s when walking from the North as it was more closed off then. This whole area was a real mystery to me until I started riding my bike down here and finding more things concealed by the landscape.

Am 30. November 2024 wurde der Sonderzug Nördlingen - München - Freilassing des Bayerischen Eisenbahnmuseums ab München Ost mit der Dampflok 01 180 bespannt. Bei Eglharting konnte der Sonderzug bei strahlendem Sonnenschein aufgenommen werden, rechts im Bild die Kirche Heilig Kreuz des Weilers Neukirchen.
Pictured on Lockwood Road in Northfield when the 29 used to use this as a terminus is well travelled 4301, ST02MZO waiting to working its next trip to Birmingham. Although 4301 was new as a BU51 for use in Birmingham, it was soon diverted to Dundee and gained an ST02 plate as it hadn't been used or entered service before the expiration of the old plate. After a few years in Dundee it moved back to Birmingham and spent many years at BC and then PB.
Ende Februar 1993 begegnete mir 103 236 mit zwei Schnellzugwagen auf Höhe der östlichen Einfahrsignale des Bahnhofs Zorneding. Die Baureihe 103 war zwischen München und Rosenheim (und weiter Richtung Salzburg bzw. Kufstein) eine Rarität - ich vermute es handelte sich um eine Überführung von Schadwagen oder ähnlichem.
Im Januar 1989 war 140 007 mit einem Zug der Rollenden Landstraße zum Brenner unterwegs und konnte bei Zorneding fotografiert werden. Neben der grünen E40 war auch der grüne Liegewagen der ÖBB bemerkenswert.
Auf den Strecken von München über Rosenheim nach Salzburg und Kufstein sind die ÖBB-Tauri auch im Jahr 2024 Standard für viele hochwertige Reisezüge. Am 30. November 2024 war der EC 217 von München Hbf nach Graz mit 1116 102 an der Spitze und 1116 079 am Schluß bespannt und konnte an der östlichen Einfahrt des Bahnhofs Zorneding fotografiert werden.

Bei Eglharting gab es mal einen kleinen Bahnübergang am "Neukirchner Weg", von dem man am 5. April 2025 nur noch wenige Spuren erkennen konnte. Der von TX Logistik angemietete Railpool-Vectron 193 996 mit der Werbung "Ökologik - keine Füße, kein Abdruck" passierte am Nachmittag mit einem Klv-Zug zum Brenner diese Stelle an der Strecke München - Grafing - Rosenheim.
Am Vormittag des 22.12.2016 konnte der Taurus 1116 085 an der östlichen Einfahrt des Bahnhof Zorneding mit einem Containerzug in Richtung Rosenheim aufgenommen werden. Die Sonne war noch nicht stark genug, um den Rauhreif von den Bäumen weg zu bekommen.
Viel war vom Frühling nicht zu sehen, als 193 404 mit einem weiteren Vectron von Lokomotion und einem Autotransportzug am Nachmittag des 5. April 2005 in Richtung Österreich (und wahrscheinlich weiter über den Brenner) unterwegs war. Der Zug hatte gerade den Bahnhof Zorneding an der Strecke München - Rosenheim passiert.

An einem Nachmittag im Januar 1989 konnte ich die werktägliche Übergabe von Ebersberg nach München Ost im Bahnhof Zorneding aufnehmen. Leider war der verwendete Film recht grobkörnig, und die Nummer der V100 ist nicht mehr erkennbar.
Am Nachmittag des 17. Dezember 2022 hatte der MRCE-Vectron 193 710 mit der 139 555 von Lokomotion im Schlepp gerade die Einfahrsignale des Bahnhofs Zorneding erreicht.
Im Oktober 1991 konnte ich im Bahnhof Zorneding die Ellok 150 051 aufnehmen. Leider mit etwas Bewegungsunschärfe und mit Oberleitungsmast inmitten der Lok...
Am 10. Juli 1997 veranstalteten einige Augsburger Behörden einen Ausflug nach Salzburg. Vor der bunt gemischten Wagengarnitur des Bayerischen Eisenbahnmuseums war die Museumslok E18 08 gespannt und konnte bei der Durchfahrt durch Zorneding aufgenommen werden.

Lothian Buses 627 SJ21 MZO, a ZF Ecolife/ Volvo B5TL Enviro400 MMC, on service 44 to Wallyford from Balerno via Currie, Juniper Green, Kingsknowe, Slateford, Dalry, Haymarket, West End, Princes Street, Leith Street, Abbeyhill, Meadowbank, Craigentinny South, Duddingston, Portobello South, Musselburgh and Wallyford Park & Ride.
627 was new in early 2021 along with 601 - 626 and 628 - 698, 651 - 698 are 71 plates, to replace the vast majority of pre 2010 B9TL's. They were sold to various operators across the UK, mainly in England.
Between September of 2020 and September of 2021 we saw the majority of the Volvo B9TL's, new prior to 2010, began to be withdrawn. These were a mixture of Gemini's and Gemini 2's, which ranged from 07 plates all the way to 59 plates.
The first of the Gemini's to be withdrawn were the 07 and the early 57 plates, 831 - 840 and 851 - 873 by December 2020. 826 - 830 weren't withdrawn at this stage due to being loaned to Lothian Country, whilst Euro 6 upgrades were in progression for the ex London B9TL's and their ex Lothian B9TL's.
Then, the last two 57 plates 874 and 875, including 07 plates 826 - 830 and 08 plates 876 - 915 and 918 - 924 were withdrawn by May 2021.
Although 841 - 850 are 57 plates, they weren't withdrawn due to them being heavily refurbished in 2017 and were sent to Lothian Motorcoaches for excursions across Scotland by early 2018, they all re-entered normal service in 2019 with 841 - 843 being used as a shuttle bus for the University of Edinburgh and 844 - 850 being sent to Lothian Country and receive Lothian Country branding on the top rear window and around the front destination display to increase the capacities of both services 275 and 280. Early 2020 saw 841 - 843 get painted into Lothian Country livery. However, 841 - 843 were not able to enter service until August 2020 due to them not having driver protection shields and were all sent to the Seafield Works in Edinburgh along with 844 - 850 to get the protection shields fitted. They all re-entered service with 844 - 850 getting transferred to East Coast Buses in September 2020 to replace their old B7TL Wright Eclipse Gemini's. 841 - 843 were loaned to East Coast Buses in June 2021 to aid in the school runs which led to them being fully transferred to East Coast Buses and they still carry the Lothian Country livery to this very day.
Anyways, enough of the ex Lothian B9TL's, back to the B5TL's.
The Volvo B5TL ADL Enviro400 MMC was a brand new product offered by Alexander Dennis introduced in early 2021 with Lothian Buses being the first buyers of the product, and so far, the only buyers of the product. They were built to a cheaper specification in comparison to their previous buses. However, they still offer the same great quality with them having high back seats and USB charging points.
The initial 30 of the MMC's were destined for Longstone, being 601 - 630 with the next 20, 631 - 650, being destined for Marine. All of the 21 plates entered service by September 2021. Onto the 71 plates, a further 25 MMC's were destined for Longstone, these being 651 - 675, then the final 22 of the order, 676 - 698, were destined for Central. All of the 71 plates entered service by February 2022.
An interesting thing to note is, 601 wasn't the first MMC to enter service with Lothian Buses. Although it is the first one numerically in the fleet. This was due to 601 being used for demonstrating the new product. This lasted for a couple of months before heading to Lothian Buses (I'm not 100% certain about this though).
What I am about to discuss here, I want to make clear, this was NOT and was NEVER officially confirmed to be true. This was just a rumour, but I thought it would be interesting to talk about: prior to the first MMC's entering service, 602 - 620 I believe, there was a rumour spread that East Coast Buses were due to get 8 of the new buses. The order count was already confirmed to be 98, so it was believed that 691 - 698 would go to East Coast Buses and would have been acquainted the fleet numbers of 20691 - 20698.

National Express Volvo B7TL 4301 passes Birchfield Road whilst preparing an 11C service for Acocks Green
