Ecco che vedo per la terza volta questo treno, l'MRI Tarvisio - Pisa di DB Cargo Italia, capitanato dalla E.191 013 con al seguito una lunga teoria omogenea di bisarche rosse cariche di auto. Transitato più presto del solito grazie a una traccia straordinaria, alle ultime luci di un tramonto limpido e terso.

Costing up to €1.3 million it is not feasible to have an MRI scanner in every hospital. This one is mounted in a lorry that travels the country, chipping away at the patient list.

I had a scan last night and the staff were very kind and supportive. it's a noisy activity as the magnets move around one. and if you're worried about tight spaces it can be a tad worrying. but it's all good.

with luck they found my brain still works and the wiring, while odd, is intact.

Si tratta di un treno che mi è capitato di vedere solo un'altra volta, che purtroppo spesso non riesco a vedere per scarsa circolazione o scarse segnalazioni. Questa volta ho deciso di aspettare nonostante la tarda ora visto che era stato segnalato con questa E.633.237, una delle ultime del gruppo rimaste in circolazione con ancora il logo FS Verde/Blu e il condizionatore sul tetto. Il carico è formato da una lunga teoria di cisterne VTG, che si vedono molto raramente da queste parti, trasportanti merci pericolose (ragion per cui il percorso del treno è instradato via Alessandria anziché MI - TO via linea storica causa interdizione di tale traffico nella stazione di Porta Susa). Qui in transito nell'ex scalo di Torino San Paolo, che a breve dovrebbe ospitare la stazione del servizio SFM, direzione scalo di Orbassano, dove effettuerà cambio macchina per salire sul Fréjus.

This is a train which I've seen just one time before, because of its late run in Turin or lack of spottings. This time it was spotted with a locomotive of the group E.633, which is the last still featuring old XMPR "FS" sign and air conditioner on the roof. It hauls a long gas tank cargo labelled "VTG" , which are very rare to see here around. Because of its load, this train runs on the Milan - Alessandria - Turin line instead of straight Milan - Turin, where it's forbidden to run for hazardous cargo. In this picture the freight MRI Domegliara - Modane is crossing the city of Turin, going to the rail yard of Orbassano, in order to have a double traction set for the steep Fréjus line, heading to its destination in France.

Cuthand is fascinated by medicine, disease and our body systems. Her past work has beautifully represented the horrifying viruses that arrived through the trade routes – the same trade routes that introduced glass beads – and decimated Indigenous populations. Here she presents a series of intricately beaded reproduction of MRI scans evoking the brains of people dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression and other illnesses. Cuthand’s series gives voice to issues of Indigenous mental health and illustrate the physical aspect of illness.

Here I am in the whole body 3 Tesla MRI/MRS machine at the :envihab medical research facility in Cologne. This allows researchers to examine human anatomy (with MRI) and physiology (with PET) simultaneously. No need for me to move between tests as is often the case in other laboratories!

With returning astronauts, these scans are used to look particularly at loss of muscle and bone mass, a potential weakening of the immune system, impairments of cognitive performance, and other effects related to weightlessness. There’s a reason I worked out for two hours on the ISS every day ;)

Plusieurs IRM (Imageries par résonance magnétique) sont au programme au retour sur Terre des astronautes. Cette fois-ci, c’était une IRM orbitaire s’intéressant à mes performances cognitives post-vol. C’est moins facile que cela en a l’air de ne pas bouger pendant toute la durée d’une session… Le moindre mouvement imprévu risque de fausser les résultats de la séance en cours.
