A spring sunset over Highlands - most of the day had been cold and rainy, but just prior to sunset the clouds decided to part and a few warming rays of sun shone across the valley that nestles the small mountain town of Highlands, NC. #mountainsunset #dronephotography #explore #mountainsarecalling #highlandsnc

Found this small water fall driving along Curtis Creek a few weekends back. Wanted to get a better shot, but the path was overgrown with poison ivy, and the culvert I was standing on had a very narrow shoulder that didnt allow me to lean out very far. Will have to try again this fall when the leaves start to drop #mountainstream #mountainwaterfall #curtiscreek #oldfortnc #mountainsarecalling #dirtroads

As the sun set behind the mountains near Big Laurel Gap, the sky took on the firey glow of one last sun burst as teh day came to an end. #mountainsarecalling #mountainsunset #adventure #explore #wanderlust #blueridgemountains #oldfortnc

With an extra hour of sunlight this weekend and the clouds beginning to clear maybe it would be a good time to take a sunset drive in the mountains along the Blueridge Parkway. #letsgetlost #MountainsAreCalling #blueridgeparkway #landscapephotography #mountainsunset

Grabbed this capture of the late afternoon sun glinting off of Dry Falls near Highlands, NC this spring. Travelling to the Blue Ridge Mountains always feels like walking on to the set of a movie, and the daily hikes and explorations begin to feel cinematic and epic. #mountainwaterfall #epic #adventure #expolore #mountainsarecalling #highlandsnc #blueridgemountains

Sometimes the lens the farthest from your mind might just be the best choice for the shot. Shot this yesterday evening using my 70-200L

Spent Black Friday out exploring the Big Ivy wilderness area and Walkers Branch - lots of great waterfall views, and winding mountain roads made for a peaceful respite from Covid and the stress of holiday shopping. #optoutside #mountainsarecalling #bigivy #blueridgemountains #mountainwaterfalls #explore

Drove up Rich Mountain after spenging the day in Hot Springs to catch sunset from the fire tower - perfect end to a day exploring the mountains. #mountainsunset #hotspringsNC #mountainsarecalling #explore #wanderlust

Was a brisk 31-degrees this morning at South Mountain State Park. I think the rivers, streams, and falls were the fullest I've ever seen them after the past week's rainfall - well worth the hike and braving the cold #mountainsarecalling #southmountainsstatepark #WNCMountains

For me, fall is a time where the brisk air and the falling leaves makes me want to reflect, get outside, and gain some perspective. This past weekend in the Highlands was no exception hashtag#MountainsAreCalling hashtag#ExploreCarolinas hashtag#Roadtrip www.mcmannisphotographic.com

Found this secluded spot while driving the dirt roads along Curtis Creek - walking along the mossy rocks I was reminded some parts of the moutains are very much like rainforests. #explore #mountainstream #mountainsarecalling #curtiscreek #oldfortnc #wnc

A shot across Bass Lake the other weekend. It was a cool Saturday afternoon before the rain blew in, and already the trees around the lake are starting to change. In another week or two the mountains will be ablaze in color! #autumn #mountaincolors #autumnvibes #mountainsarecalling

The Mountains are Calling and I Must Go...

John Muir, born in 1838, was one of America’s most famous and influential “Outdoor Enthusiasts,” which in his era, were called Naturalists. He remains one of California’s most important historical personalities and is generally still known today as one of the Father’s of our National Parks. He once described himself as, a “poetico-trampo-geologist-botanist and ornithologist-naturalist etc. etc.!!!!”

A slope of the Rocky Mountains near the Alberta/British Columbia border, Canada.

“Climb the mountains and get their good

tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you

as sunshine flows into trees. The winds

will blow their own freshness into you,

and the storms their energy, while cares

will drop away from you like the leaves of

Autumn.” - John Muir - Garden of the Gods, CO , April, 2022

I wanted / needed to update this description bc of the incredible amount of messages (and a few comments ) of photographers who are incredibly disturbed bc I have used Luminar to make this image. I recently just used a friends copy and really enjoyed the artistic enjoyment in it. It’s my first photo I’ve ever used Luminar on and I had a grand time elevating the duller sky for one of the luminous ones on Luminar. It’s definitely an artistic piece for me and as I uploaded it quickly on my phone I’m supposing I should have put this in the description first to help calm down all the photographers who have a knot in their noses bc I’ve used it lol. I view my photography as a an art, it’s very artistic and personal to me. I’ve never hid that fact. You’ll find my account full of writings that are just as personal as the time spend making images that mean something to ME. In the end that’s all that matters - do what what is meaningful to you and what makes you happy ❤️

So for all of you blowing up my inbox and leaving me rude comments - Have a wonderful day, your anxieties can be put to rest!! Here is a full disclosure - yes Luminar was used for this image. Now you can take a break from things that cause you anxiety and get back to shooting! Love y’all!❤️❤️❤️
