I've walked past this Morris Minor for weeks now, today was the first time it wasn't obscured by modern motors, a classic in it's home town.

Morris XFF 673 seen at Sywell Classic 2022. Owner Tom Bull says: "A 1929 ash framed body clad in steel on a 35 Morris chassis fully boxed and strengthened. I fully rebuilt the engine which is a 2.5 ltr Daimler V8 and auto gearbox. Daimler V8 back axle and drop tube front with E type hubs. Servo assisted disc brakes all round. It handles really well. Very unusual and different."

Carolin and I are members of a local Landcare group. Carolin is vastly more active in this area than I am, but I did attend an event last week. It was entertaining and interesting. The property we visited had a number of features of interest, including this old Morris van which was certainly beyond salvage, but interesting in its own way.

Morris Island Light is a lighthouse on Morris Island in South Carolina. The light stands on the southern side of the entrance to Charleston Harbor, north of the City of Folly Beach.[2][3] The lighthouse was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.[1]

The lighthouse is unusual in that it now stands several hundred feet offshore. When constructed in 1876 the light was approximately 1,200 feet (370 m) from the water's edge. However, the construction in 1889 of the jetties which protect the shipping lanes leading to Charleston Harbor altered ocean currents, resulting in the rapid erosion of Morris Island and the destruction of many structures and historical sites (such as Fort Wagner). By 1938 the shoreline had reached the lighthouse, forcing its automation as it was no longer safe or practical to keep it manned. In 1962 the Morris Island Light was decommissioned and replaced by the new Charleston Light, located on Sullivan's Island at the north end of the harbor.

Morris Minor models are popular in the classic car scene. The prices are cheap and the supply of spare parts is considered good. The engine originally installed is sometimes replaced by other units.

Outside a colourful house.

It has been more than a month since I received an email from the Morris County Historical Society. The email was worded so that if anything relating the structure to the Santa Fe Trail was discovered, I would be contacted. Since I haven't heard anything, I presume nothing was discovered.

I think the front end styling on this Mk3 version worked quite well, with the chunkier bumper and spoiler. Always reminds me of my Grandad's brown V-reg Marina.
