Establishment of the cemetery (1848):

Before the construction of the Camperdown Cemetery, there were general cemeteries where Anglicans would have to share the space with both other Christian and pagan denominations. This was not satisfactory to the strong Anglican community in the colony, which sought to retain its sectarian social exclusivity beyond the grave. The Anglican Camperdown Cemetery was created on the 12th of July 1848. It opened in 1849.

Operation of the cemetery (1848 - 1866):

As a major cemetery for the dominant religion in Sydney, the range of interments was broad. In the period of its operation more than sixteen thousand burials were placed in the cemetery, making it a significant nineteenth century urban cemetery by any standards.

In 1850, Mogo, a Koori (Aboriginal New South Wales man) from Towel Creek on the Upper Macleay Valley was buried in what became known as 'Cooee Corner' of the cemetery (on the Lennox Street side). His grave was originally decorated with shells taken from an Aboriginal midden in Pittwater. Some time after the cemetery closed in 1942 this and adjacent areas were cleared, headstones moved within the perimeter of the newley-erected stone wall, where they remain today. It is not known what became of Mogo's remains but his sandstone headstone, the inscription blurred by weathering, lies on the ground next to an obelisk, erected in tribute to Aboriginal people buried in the cemetery in 1944 by the Rangers' League of New South Wales in memory of Mogo Perry (d.1849, aged 26) and two other Kooris buried in the cemetery - Wandelina Caborigirel (d. 1860, aged 18) and Tommy (d. aged 11). The inscription says the obelisk was erected 'Also as a tribute to the whole of the Aboriginal race'.

It is now a great deal more about the operation of this cemetery than other comparable establishments because of the Select Committee of the New South Wales Legislative Council which held hearings in 1865 - 1866 as a result of complaints about health and morality issues. The Select Committee evidence concentrates mainly on the pauper burials, suggesting that multiple interments were common.

Closure of the cemetery (1867 - 1948):

Health and hygienic problems were exacerbated as the population of Newtown and Camperdown increased dramatically from the late 1840s onwards, leading to the closure of the cemetery by the Newtown Municipal Council. On the 2nd of September 1867 the Camperdown and Randwick Cemetery Act was assented. From the 1st of January 1868 all burials in the cemetery would cease, apart from those who had a compelling reason.

In 1948 the Camperdown Cemetery Act divided the land into a 12 acre that was to become a public park, with the remaining 4 acres to form the historic core of the cemetery, along with the sexton's cottage and Saint Stephens Church. The wall surrounding the new cemetery core was completed in 1951, and headstones removed and installed inside the new compound.

The Current Camperdown Cemetery:

The Camperdown Cemetery was established in 1848 on about 13 acres of the 240 acres granted to Governor Bligh, known as the Camperdown Estate. This was the first privately-owned and operated Anglican cemetery in Sydney. It was the main cemetery for Sydney from 1849 to 1867. During this time it received over 15,000 interments and was the subjct of a state government select committee inquiry. This inquiry was convened to address the mismanagement of a number of cemeteries within Sydney and it found that the accusations directed at the Camperdown Cemetery were founded. Sale of plots was terminated in 1867 and it closed in 1868 but a trickle of burials continued until the 1940s (Brettell, 2015 says 1920s, these being within family and pre-purchased plots and crypts).

Following its closure the cemetery fell into disrepair. It was reduced in size in the 1950s when Camperdown Memorial Rest Park was established, comprising two distinct sections that now comprise the area - the Saint Stephens Church and graveyard (within a six foot high sandstone wall) and the Camperdown Memorial Rest Park (without the wall), treated as broadly grassed open space with pockets of tree planting, and, directly south of the graveyard wall, a children's play ground area. The Church and graveyard have been managed since the 1970s by the Camperdown Cemetery Trust and the Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is managed by Marrickville Council.

In 2021 $20,000 grant funding will support restoration of headstones in Camperdown Cemetery.

Grace is never induced by morality or piety or even law. It comes like the best and worst of our tears: usually uninvited, uncreated, unchosen, and unexpected, a pure creation out of nothing. From there, tears do their work, if we will just allow a little secret chemistry in the soul. Such subtle solutio is already and always at work.

Though it's not one of Tokyo's tallest buildings, the Shinjuku NS building keeps pace by incorporating several outstanding features. The easiest to see is the exterior elevator shaft which is covered in glass, allowing visitors to see out, and the world to see in. The building's position allows it to appear many different colors as it catches the sun at different angles through the day. Sunlight is an important part of this building, as is evidenced by its massive 30-story atrium which runs through the core of the building. It's like the building was made of four skyscraper slabs placed next to each other and covered with a huge glass space frame of a roof. The large interior space allows natural light to filter down to even the lower offices for a couple of hours a day. And if you're feeling adventurous, you can take a stroll across the 29th floor skybridge which spans the atrium.

The cheetah /ˈtʃiːtə/ (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat of the subfamily Felinae that occurs in Southern, North and East Africa, and a few localities in Iran. The species is IUCN Red Listed as vulnerable, as it suffered a substantial decline in its historic range in the 20th century due to habitat loss, poaching, illegal pet trade, and conflict with humans. By 2016, the global cheetah population has been estimated at approximately 7,100 individuals in the wild. Several African countries have taken steps to improve cheetah conservation measures. It is the fastest land animal.

Cheetahs are active mainly during the day, with hunting their major activity. Adult males are sociable despite their territoriality, forming groups called coalitions. Females are not territorial; they may be solitary or live with their offspring in home ranges. Carnivores, cheetah mainly prey upon antelopes and gazelles. They will stalk their prey to within 100–300 m (330–980 ft), charge towards it and kill it by tripping it during the chase and biting its throat to suffocate it to death. Cheetahs can reach speeds of 112 km/h (70 mph) in short bursts, but this is disputed by more recent measurements. The average speed of cheetahs is about 64 km/h (40 mph). Cheetahs are induced ovulators, breeding throughout the year. Gestation is nearly three months long, resulting in a litter of typically three to five cubs (the number can vary from one to eight). Weaning occurs at six months; siblings tend to stay together for some time. Cheetah cubs face higher mortality than most other mammals, especially in the Serengeti region. Cheetahs inhabit a variety of habitats – dry forests, scrub forests and savannahs. -Wikipedia

The world has been thrown into chaos and the eyes of the young are watching with anxious anticipation for guidance. What will we hand them? What messages do we send them? What kind of world do we leave them with when we bestow the dubious honor of leadership to them? I would suggest that we spend more time searching our morality and ethics than our pocket books and wallets. #Lions

Grace in Spirit .Uncomplicated by guilt, unburdened morality, pure and free to express its power of Beauty "LOVE!"

Translation of the sticker:

In the Corona crisis, you want to save lives at any cost and sacrifice freedom.

In the Ukraine war, you want to save freedom at any cost and sacrifice lives.

In both crises, it is considered moral behavior to deny morality to those who think differently.

I debated going the subtle route. Just letting words of this brilliant, moving song written by Woody Guthrie in 1948, about the tragic plan crash in Southern California, killing 4 Americans and 28 migrant farm workers who were being deported from California back to Mexico.

But I have some thoughts on this topic I would like to express.

When I was 12 to 18yo I worked every summer on a dairy farm in NE Indiana. Honestly I give this much credit for the man I grew into. With that said there is no harder life than working the fields.

Fast forward to adult me, I spent my 40 year working life in the construction industry. I have the privilege to have worked with many hard working, family focused, immigrants from nearly every continent on earth. Some were 1st or 2nd generation Americans some naturalized citizens, some were holders of green cards and I am sure some were undocumented. Personally In my own company everyone filled out the I-9 form that all employers are required to keep.

I have lived my whole life in a state that once was part of Mexico, (other than my summers on the farm) 40% of Californians identify as Hispanic or Latino, representing the largest ethnic group in the state. I am saddened and pretty fucking pissed off by this attack on this vulnerable population by ICE & other federal law enforcement. This overreach where you are picked up merely for the color of your skin or your place of employment is racism in its clearest definition. You have to ask yourself the rhetorical question why you never see the boss being held in account having employed the undocumented?

Why do these federal law enforcement officers choose to cover their faces with mask? Why wont they identify what agency they are affiliated with? When I was kid it was the bad guys who wore the mask.

Before you say "Kidd wants open borders" I in fact do not. I want work permits, I want pathways for the worthy to live here legally without the fear of being rounded up by masked men and sent some black shithole prison in El Salvador without due process.

We are a nation of immigrants, we need to stop the repugnant bullshit, it service no purpose other than make Steven Millers limp dick hard and line his pockets in his investments in Palantir, one of ICE’s most prominent contractors.

Ok done ......Sorry but I feel like a salmon swimming up stream.

Peace Out

The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting,

The oranges piled in their creosote dumps;

They're flying 'em back to the Mexican border

To pay all their money to wade back again

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye, Rosalita,

Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria;

You won't have your names when you ride the big airplane,

All they will call you will be "deportees"

My father's own father, he waded that river,

They took all the money he made in his life;

My brothers and sisters come working the fruit trees,

And they rode the truck till they took down and died.

Some of us are illegal, and some are not wanted,

Our work contract's out and we have to move on;

Six hundred miles to that Mexican border,

They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves.

We died in your hills, we died in your deserts,

We died in your valleys and died on your plains.

We died 'neath your trees and we died in your bushes,

Both sides of the river, we died just the same.

The sky plane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon,

A fireball of lightning, and shook all our hills,

Who are all these friends, all scattered like dry leaves?

The radio says, "They are just deportees"

Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards?

Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit?

To fall like dry leaves to rot on my topsoil

And be called by no name except "deportees"?

Ghent's opulent Groot Huis Royal Dutch Theatre & NTGent (KNS)

The Classic City Theatre of the Future - NTGent in the city of Ghent and Orestes in Mosul tragedy.

The Royal Dutch Theater (KNS) and home of the NTGent is an appealing, historical building located on Sint-Baafsplein Square.

It was built in 1897-1899 by the Belgian architect Edmond De Vigne in Eclectic architectural style. It plainly displays a blend of diverse styles, such as Neo-Renaissance,Baroque,Byzantine and 19th century Flemish design.

- Click on the image to enlarge and see all the described details -

"Apollo and the Muses of Fine Arts" & Harmonia"

On its elaborate facade and above the entrance, there is an enormous mosaic,(9 metres wide & 4 metres high),made up of thousands of 15 millimetre coloured ceramic stones. The Art piece was designed by the Belgian painter Constant Montald, and it shows a scene titled : "Apollo & the Muses of Fine Arts".Apollo,God of the Sun,Music and Arts,is shown in his charriot playing the Lyre while he brings the nine Muses to the mountain of the Arts,Parnassus.

In the forefront,we see the Muse of Theatre,Thalia, holding a mask.

Right on the very top of the building,Harmonia is also playing the Lyre. It's a magnidficent Alois Buyens bronze sculpture.Harmonia, Ares' & Aprodite's daughter,is the Immortal Goddess of harmony and concord - Ἁρμονία -.

The harmonious interplay of architecture, mosaic, painting and sculpture in 1897, was a significant event in the history of Flemish culture.

Let's see what's happening inside where Milo Rau is presenting his own Oresteia.

Orestes in Mosul - 17 April ,2019 - 26 January ,2020

NTGent - Adaptation of Classics -

"The Oresteia is not only the one single trilogy that has come down to us from classical antiquity and one of mankind’s greatest tragedies, but it also represents the myth of the foundation of civilisation, whereby the principle of the blood feud, the never-ending cycle of revenge,an eye for an eye,was replaced by the principles of justice, integration and reconciliation." Milo Rau

He staged this tragedy with a mixed ensemble of European and Iraqi actors. The process includes research and activities in Mosul, where the Jihadi caliphate of ISIS was declared in 2014.

Milo Rau had the idea of staging a present-day version of Aeschylus’ Oresteia while he was conducting research for his play EMPIRE (2016) ,in northern Iraq on the frontline facing ISIS.

- Music by the Greek composer Eleni Karaindrou -

"It is as if you were in a television scene and in a classical epic at the same time," as Rau puts it.How is it possible to stop the never-ending chain of violence in which the parties of the Syrian-Iraqi civil war and their Western allies find themselves?

Milo Rau retains the ancient grandeur of the tragedy, but links it to present-day issues, with an international ensemble.

He is probably the most advanced, controversial and influential European playwright, author and director. He was recently awarded the first honourary doctorate of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts at Lund University in Malmö,and Sweden, and assumed a post as lecturer at the University of Münster.

Although Greek tragedies go back 2,500 years, theatre directors continue to find them extraordinarily resonant today, sometimes staging them in contemporary settings or finding other ways to emphasise how pride and passion, ancient or modern, can bleed out and leave a society in ruins.

Insightful Reflection in the Future ...

In 2015 NTGent turned 50 years old.Since 1965,it has organized and staged more than four hundred plays.

NTGent is more than a theater in a Brechtian sense. It is a school for life and art that combines practice and theory, and sees it as an

investment in emerging artists, but also as an investment in Theater and Art.The NTGent programme includes theater projects, political discussions, lectures and activism, they think about the state of the world and call for action ...

"Don't expect the theatre to satisfy the habits of its audience, but to change them." Bertolt Brecht

Mike and I have been vegan for 16 years now and in that time, vegan food options have come a very long way. We tend to avoid overly processed foods, but couldn’t pass up these Stranger Things themed chicken nuggets when we saw them.

They’re quite tasty and I couldn’t resist the combination of a vegan item and one of our favorite shows (which is an equally irresistible combination of the 80’s and horror, IMO).

Update- Skinny Butcher now uses really chicken in their products, so please do not purchase them if you’re vegan! Very disappointing….

Big Buddha, located at the village of Ngong Ping on Lantau Island, in the Island District, Hong Kong.

Officially known as The Tian Tan Buddha, is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. The statue is sited near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith and is a major centre of Buddhism.

The statue's base is a model of the Altar of Heaven or Earthly Mount of Tian Tan, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. One of the five large Buddha statues in China, it is enthroned on a lotus on top of a three-platform altar. Surrounding it are six smaller bronze statues known as "The Offering of the Six Devas" that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha. These symbolise the Six Perfections of generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation, and wisdom, all of which are necessary for enlightenment.

The statue is 34 metres (112 ft) tall, weighs over 250 metric tons (280 short tons), and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. In addition to the exterior components, there is a strong steel framework inside to support the heavy load. Reputedly the figure can be seen across the bay from as far away as Macau on a clear day. Visitors must climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha, though the site also features a small winding road for vehicles to accommodate the handicapped. The Buddha's right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction, while the left rests open on his lap in a gesture of generosity. He faces north, which is unique among the great Buddha statues, as all others face south.

There are also three floors beneath the statue: the halls of the Universe, of Benevolent Merit and of Remembrance. One of the most renowned features inside is a relic of Gautama Buddha, consisting of some of his alleged cremated remains. Only visitors who purchase an offering for the Buddha can see the relic, entering to leave it there. There is a huge carved bell inscribed with images of Buddhas in the show room. It was designed to ring every seven minutes, 108 times a day, symbolising the release of 108 kinds of human vexations.

The Big Buddha was constructed beginning in 1990, and was finished on 29 December 1993, which the Chinese recognise as the day of the Buddha's enlightenment. When the statue was completed, monks from around the world were invited to the opening ceremony. Distinguished visitors from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United States all took part in the proceedings.

"Forgetfulness is not just a vis inertiae, as superficial people believe, but is rather an active ability to suppress, positive in the strongest sense of the word, to which we owe the fact that what we simply live through, experience, take in, no more enters our consciousness during digestion (one could call it spiritual ingestion) than does the thousand-fold process which takes place with our physical consumption of food, our so-called ingestion. To shut the doors and windows of consciousness for a while; not to be bothered by the noise and battle which our underworld of serviceable organs work with and against each other;a little peace, a little tabula rasa of consciousness to make room for something new, above all for the nobler functions and functionaries, for ruling, predicting, predetermining (our organism runs along oligarchic lines, you see) - that, as I said, is the benefit of active forgetfulness, like a doorkeeper or guardian of mental order, rest and etiquette: from which can immediately see how there could be no happiness, cheerfulness, hope, pride, immediacy, without forgetfulness" Nietzche, On the Genealogy of Morality.

In this frankly erotic work we see references to both Neolithic art and the massive figurative forms of Moore toward the end of his career. I don't normally include such provocative work on my stream but I feel its significance outweighs any Insult to public morality.

Jake & Dinos Chapman

The Chapman Brothers' artwork is provocative, and the two are obviously on a mission of shocking their audience. Under the surface, however, their work revolves around complex issues, ultimately concerned with the essence of the human experience, which reveals larger and deeper analyses of society's relationship with religion, violence, sexuality, and morality.

Fourth version of my self-moc Aegnor, Toa of Fire, Knight of the Realm.

A bit of backstory:

Aegnor was given a lightless Kanohi Avohkii by the God Martaku - the Artakha of my universe - as a matoran, along with a fire stone, which both contributed to transform him into a Toa.

Aegnor can control his elemental powers and use them as he likes. However, like all toas, he must recharge his power once he uses them.

His Lightless Kanohi Avohkii, instead of giving him light powers, increases his sense of morality and makes him less attracted or corruptible by the shadow leeches or shadow forces.

Like Takanuva, his Avohkii permits him to sense morality and the hearts of others. Yet, because of the lack of light in this mask, these secondary powers quickly developed and became the primary powers of the mask.

Now, Aegnor can activate his Kanohi to bring understanding to the hearts of others and sense their intentions. It can thus bring Aegnor to identify the nature of one's intentions as soon as he meets them.

It was this way Aegnor was able to defeat opponents who acted as agents of the light, when truly, they were motivated by greed, selfishness or destruction.

XIII-XIV), are located in the area of the old Jewish quarter and, despite their extraordinary architectural interest they were abandoned (Christian morality did not permit certain practices), and flooding of the river Guadalevín eventually buried them. When the Duchess of Parcent ordered the construction of gardens in this area, they appeared his first rest, although they were disregarded until in 1935 the site was purchased by the state. Excavations so far have allowed rescue the three bathrooms (cold, warm and hot) and covered with barrel vaults (pierced with star-shaped skylights), which are connected by arches. They also retain some of the boilers and water conveyance systems.

Have full preserve the uniqueness of its structure, with different rooms and facilities that organized, being the largest and best preserved in the Iberian Peninsula. Interestingly they stood outside the city walls.

So Kidds!

There is a new SiFi sim in town!

My old friend Kitten Caboose from those cool peeps over at The Grove Art Center has created this unique futuristic environment, really well laid out with some superb details.

I was lucky enough get to do a shoot in the Kidd way going BIG, last week. While my interpretation strays from the builders intended storyline a tad, I had a blast making my frames!

The Sims Story Per the creator:

The story of Three Finger Pines:

Once a thriving, green world, the planet Seva was rich with towering flora. But centuries of unchecked consumerism, pollution, and climate collapse shattered its natural balance. The soil turned sterile; the skies choked with toxins.

The Seravarian race emerged from this collapse, desperate to save what remained of their dying world. They launched a small fleet of ships into the galaxy, searching for planets with atmospheres that echoed their lost home. One such vessel crash-landed on Earth—deep within an isolated region of Canada’s boreal forest known as Three Finger Pines.

Remote and largely untouched, Three Finger Pines is a land of towering pines, sprawling wetlands, and near-complete isolation. To the Seravarians, it was a living memory of what Seva once was.

They have not come to resettle Earth, but to learn from its biosystem. By studying the region’s genetic blueprints—its plants, spores, and soil—they hope to unlock the secrets needed to reawaken Seva’s long-lost ecosystem.

Sim Rules are more than reasonable, read the NC upon arrival, This is a very photo friendly build, group rezz allowed. Best if viewed in Ultra graphics setting.

Honest this is a refreshing top shelf superb build!

Peace Out

Some say she's from Mars

Or one of the seven stars that shine after three-thirty in the morning

Well, she isn't!
