Michigan/Wisconsin Border

The Montreal River is a rocky stream that flows northward towards the Wisconsin/Michigan U.P. border and Lake Superior. The riverbank is an inviting lowland woods with moss and vines draping the hemlocks, cedar and tamaracks.

Montréal City Hall (Hôtel de Ville) is a Second Empire–style building completed in 1878. It features a mansard roof, central clock tower, and symmetrical stone façade. After a 1922 fire, the interior was rebuilt with Beaux-Arts influences and modern administrative spaces.

You should have noticed me using my phone often to capture buildings and interiors on this trip. The outside was too cold, so I did not want to take my new camera out. In addition, my current setup (an APS-C with a 28 mm lens or the kit lens) was not enough to provide the wide-angle needed to capture these beautiful pieces of history.

Montreal is so vibrant and lively compared to…., well ok I’ll say it. Ottawa. Maybe Eric can tell me the name of this pedestrian street.

The Montreal Canadiens joined the NHL in 1917 and were founded in 1909. The Canadiens are the oldest hockey team in the NHL, one of the oldest continuously existing sports franchises in the world, and also one of the most successful in all of sports.

Old Montreal is the oldest area in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with few remains dating back to New France. Located in the borough of Ville-Marie, the area is bordered on the west by McGill St., on the north by Ruelle des Fortifications, on the east by Rue Saint Andre and on the south by the Saint Lawrence River. Following recent amendments, the district has been expanded slightly to include the rue des Soeurs Grises in the west, Saint Antoine St. in the north and Saint Hubert Street in the east. It also includes the Old Port of Montreal. Most of Old Montreal was declared an historic district in 1964 by the Ministère des Affaires culturelles du Québec
