At absolute last light, MNA Train KCMNA 06 rolls past NSS Ore on the MNA Nevada Sub. bound for Harrisonville where this 0700 crew will tie up almost dead after a royal screwing by the UP today. This train operates out of UP Neff Yard and runs to MNA Pearl Yard in Carthage, MO 5 days a week.

The SD45T-2 days are numbered on the MNA. G&W is reportedly purging their remaining 20 cylinder EMD's from the roster, so it's nice to see this one on the point after it trailed into town several times over the past two months.

It isn't often you get a second chance in the railroad world, but MNA gave local railfans a wonderful surprise by buying a pair of ex-NS Dash 8 standard cabs. I never really thought I would get to shoot one of these aside from a static one I saw in North Carolina some years ago. I was delighted MNA kept them in such an NS-looking condition. Here the pair is seen on the MNA Clinton Job at Rockville.

The MNA B32-8's coming around the curve just north of Passaic.

MNA 554 taking the Harrisonville Switcher north out of Butler with a convient 20 car pickup after running lite power on the way down. 554 and 529 are a couple former NS B32-8's recently acquired by G&W and sent to MNA. These units aren't popular amongst the crews as they are still set up to run LHF, but they sure do look great out on the road. Especially with the unpatched nose logo.

Former Southern Pacific SD45T-2 #9362 brings MNA Train KCMNA 11 through the sag at SSS Ore on the MNA Nevada Sub. The engines are in notch 8 getting up to track speed for the short trip to Harrisonville with 55 cars and 5,113 tons out of UP Neff Yard in Kansas City for MNA Pearl Yard Carthage, MO.

The days of SP painted tunnel motors on G&W properties are numbered. Fortunately this train died at Neff the day prior and made a mid-afternoon run under beautiful skies after a morning of thunderstorms.

MNA 4081 leads the Mankato to Aurora train after some serious snowfall struck the area. It's a little weird shooting something not in G&W paint on this train, but I'll take it over the patched UP units.

The MNA HArrisonville switcher headed south out of Lone Tree after dropping some cars.

The MNA Carthage South Local and Cotter North Local meeting at Gretna siding next to Royal Oak Charcoal. The two trains meet here so the crews can swap trains and head back to their originating points, rather than get a ride all the way back to Carthage or Cotter. These two trains also featured the last two six axles on the MNA that still wear the Railtex Red paint.

The west train has cleared 10mph track and is getting up to speed for the remainder of the trip into Rapid City. At the time of this photo, crews were nearing Philip with the PRC rebuild and the first 4 Dash 9s had been inspected. Only a matter of time before the end of the SD40 era is upon us.

Ex-UP SD40M-2's bring MNA Train KCMNA 09 through Lee's Summit and over the crest of the second major grade they've faced on UP Sedalia Sub. Engineer Tim Whitworth and Conductor Stew Jacobs will soon accelerate on the downhill side for a quick run to Pleasant Hill where they will hit home rails, and Ore on the MNA Nevada Sub., where they will tie the train down shortly before going dead.

Tim is still an engineer out of Nevada on the MNA and became a grandpa in 2018.
