Back in 2001 the 2 Wells jobs worked days and nights. The day job made an Austin turn out of Wells, then the night job would make a Jackson turn. Here the 948 day job is westbound for Wells with empties for the west end to be spot by the night job. The train is about to pass under Interstate 90 between Armstrong and Alden. Back in Scanned Slide from June 2001.

A train of still steaming taconite pellet loads slow down at Munger as they begin the approach into Proctor yard. In the lead is a classic SD40-2W, still bearing the North America paint scheme as well as its as delivered class lights.
Rock picking on north shore beaches is a tradition with so many types of rocks to pick through: unnaturally round black basalt, granite, rhyolite with quartz shining in the pockmarks, and prized agates. Each summer we stop at one of the beaches on the road and and I sit sifting through rocks as long as my family will let me and I come home with a small bag of rocks to add my collection. What better way to fill all of the Hendricks gin cups that come home with me from duty free?
More than you want to know... if you’re wondering why the water has a root beer color is due to natural organic materials in the water, from the partial decay of plants and algae. If more of that is present, the more brown the water will be. Also the more rainfall the less transparent the water will be which was the case in this image. I took this shot just minutes after about 6 or 8 hours of rain.
