My favourite painting in Manchester’s Art Gallery is: ‘Marshal Ney Supporting the Rear Guard during the Retreat from Moscow’ painted in 1856 by artist Adolphe Yvon 1817-1893; ( Painting Pictured above).
Yvon’s painting represents the disastrous culmination of Napoleon’s Russian invasion of 1812.
Having led 450,000 men across the river Niemen Napoleon was forced to turn back to Moscow; which had been torched by retreating Russian forces.
The central figure in the picture is the French Hero ‘Marshal Michael Ney’ who was given command of the army’s rear guard, but temperatures below -20° C killed as many men as the enemy; by the December of that year only 13,000 of the Grand Army remained.
Historically, the French eventually occupied Moscow, and all seemed hopeless for the Russians until a legendary winter storm descended, defeating the French where they stood; can be seen in the picture.
One of the best known pieces of classical music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1880 was the ‘1812 Overture’; its full title is ‘The Year 1812 Solemn Overture, op. 49’. It was meant to commemorate the successful Russian defence against Napoleon’s invading Grand Army in 1812; Represented in the painting by Yvon.
Tchaikovsky actually hated that piece of music as it was ‘too loud and noisy’, even though he wrote it.

So the drones have arrived in Sydney.

This is a new version of one of the many images I have of the Drone Shows on Sydney Harbour, Sydney Cove and Darling Harbour during the Vivid Light Festivals of 2023 and 2024.
Photographed from beside the south-eastern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Along the Cahill Walkway. Next to the Cahill Expressway. No tripod - the camera was resting on the side of the harbour bridge, lol.
So here's John Lennon with his song 'Mind Games'. But I don't think he could have anticipated drones. OR maybe he did.

I’m in a bit of a dark place at the moment and thought I’d process and upload something to reflect my mood. Normally the sliders go right for me but this time everything’s gone left just to darken the mood deliberately. The only thing is… I’ve gone and done it again and reprocessed an image I’ve already uploaded.

52Nijmegen (earlier: FiftyTwoDegrees) is a prismatic office building. It is bent, and positioned on a grassy slope.
There are some fascinating elements in the facade.
Built in 2008 and designed by Francine Houben and Francesco Veenstra (Mecanoo Architects).
And it is not on the 52nd degree, but on 51°49’28 !
Switzerland is a small, steep country, much more up and down than sideways, and is all stuck over with large brown hotels built on the cuckoo style of architecture

Synopsis:
Jem and the Holograms have been invited to play at Mrs. Farnsworth's charity ball. Everyone attenting the ball will wear costumes from Houdinis time, and all the proceeds will go to the childrens hospital for a new wing. Astral, one of the top young magicians of the country, will perform at the ball. The Stingers have also offered to play at the benefit, and they aren't about to give up at Mrs. Farnsworth's rejection, so Rapture takes the part of the host body of Houdini's return.

On a serious note, we still need to watch our ways and keep safe.
