Strumble Head Lighthouse stands on Ynys Meicel (St. Michael's Island), also known as Strumble Head, a rocky island at the northwest corner of Pencaer area, five miles west of the town of Fishguard, in northern Pembrokeshire, Wales.

The present lighthouse was erected in 1908, but the first proposal to build a lighthouse here was made in 1825 by Trinity House. The lighthouse replaces a light-vessel previously moored in the south of Cardigan Bay.

The circular stone tower is 55 ft high and still contains the original lantern complete with fresnel lens manufactured by Chance Brothers, using a mercury bath as a low-friction bearing. Illumination was updated from paraffin to electricity in 1949. The Lighthouse was fully automated in 1980 and is now monitored from the Trinity House Operations Control Centre at Harwich with regular visits made by an attendant.

Michael lives on an open piece of land not far from where I live .He makes his living by carving and recycling from the bins in our area. I often see him wrapped in plastic to keep the cold out. Sometimes I notice him pulling his cart down the road during peak traffic causing a major traffic jam!

August 2008; Wellesley Street East, east of Yonge; Toronto ON

Hung out with my lovely friend Michael today and sung some lana del rey and took some photos.

He'll be moving to Toronto soon, and I'm going to miss him dearly!

Michael was another lucky find while I was in St James's Park London. I watched him feeding the Herons and admired his ensemble . I approached hi and we chatted for a while about his life and where he lived and then I asked him if I could add his portrait to my collection and he readily agreed . He is in fact a Frenchman living in London and was a design engineer on the Channel Tunnel projectThis picture is #09 in my 100 strangers project collection 2. St Michael's Church is situated on an industrial site between gas holders and a railway line in Church Road, Garston, a district of Liverpool .

The first church on the site was built in 1225 , and the second in 1715 . The present church was built between 1875 and 1877 and was designed by Thomas D. Berry and Son . The church has a historical connection with the Norris and the Watt families of Speke Hall.

Michael Dunlop won the first race and got the lap record from a standing start in the first lap. He lapped the 37.733 miles (60.73 km) in just under 17 minutes!

Image taken early in the morning when the tide was almost in. Poor weather so took three exposures and combined in photomatix. St Michael's Mount is a lofty pyramidal tidal island, exhibiting a curious combination of slate and granite, rising 400 yards (366 m) from the shore of Mount's Bay, situated in Penwith in west Cornwall, United Kingdom, in the extreme south western peninsula of the island of Great Britain. It is united with Marazion by a man-made causeway, passable only at mid to low tide, comprised of granite setts.

Speaking following a reading from his new novel, Divisadero.

In conversation with Atom Egoyan, Ondaatje was everything I was told he would be... an erudite self-critic, a talented interpreter and a charming intellect.

While he was FAR too soft-spoken for me to successfully pull off the audio recording I was shooting for (the MacMillan Theatre is not the right place for a mid-row bootleg on an echoey night), it was a very pleasant night - Divisadero promises to be a great read!

Michael photographed at Leiden Central Station

This photo is part of my $2 Portrait Project, a project that I started to increase the interaction I have with other human beings. The idea is that I offer to give $2 for a portrait sitting to anyone who asks me for money. You can see my collection of these portraits here and my original blog post announcing this project here. There is also a $2 portrait group on Flickr where other people who have adopted this project for their own also post photos. You can get to that group here.

Earlier today while out shooting on Geary Street near Mason I ran into Michael. I actually ran into Michael while I was working on a portrait of another guy Brad. I also took a $2 portrait of Brad, but when I told him about my project he asked me not to post his photo to the internet so his image isn't in the collection.

But while talking to Brad, Michael made his way into our conversation. Michael is blind and was heading up the street with his cane. He heard Brad's voice and told him that he knew him. Brad told Michael that he was right and that he and Michael had talked for a while the night before.

While talking with Brad and Michael, Michael asked me if I could give him some money for some pizza. He said he was hungry and needed to eat. I told Michael about my project and he agreed to pose.

Michael is originally from Cincinnati Ohio but he's been out here since 1980 We talked a little bit about technology. I asked Michael if he'd heard about the new 230mpg car that was in the news today and he said he had. He said that like most of the technology though that they've probably already had it for years but are just letting us get it now. "Do you remember Star Trek," he asked me. I said yes and he said that they already had the idea for the cell phone way back then. Michael said that mostly the military has all the technology already but that they keep it hidden away from all of us. He told me that his father had been in World War II and that they had computers even way back then.

Michael was the first blind person I've photographed as part of my project.

After chatting a bit more Michael asked me if I could make it $5 instead of $2. I told him that the pay for portraits was only $2 and he said ok.

With that I paid Michael and Brad both $2 and headed on my way home on the BART.

Michael is my third stranger in the 100 stranger series.

He was standing at the Grocery store offering poppies for donations for remembrance day. At first I felt a bit awkward talking with him and I could see he was a bit nervous as well, but once I asked him about the Cadets (and paid for a poppy) the conversation got easier.

I wanted to spend a bit more time selecting the background for his portrait but there were a lot of people bustling around with their shopping carts so I just made do.

Michael says he is in his third year in the British Columbia Dragoons regiment of the Canadian Forces. He hopes to commence studies to become a psychiatrist when he turns 19.

(I chose black and white editing because of different colours in the background but I will also post the colour one in the 100 stranger's photo album for comparisons.)

This picture is #03 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at
