There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about "The" Middle ages.

This era lasted roughly 1000 years and life was very different at certain times and in different places, so it is a bit silly and difficult to make blanket statements about this subject.

Nevertheless when talking about Medieval Europe or see movies set in that era we see many things that just are incorrect.

And yes some of these myths are still being taught in schools and are thus quite common.

Many of these misconceptions come from Victorian writers and historians who reflected their Victorian society into how they thought Medieval life was.

So I made this fun Medieval Myths Bingo card.

Print it out and get it ready when watching yet another Hollywood blockbuster set in the Medieval era.

Even though I am not an expert of this time period, I have studied it extensively and I'll explain some of the Bingo Squares here;

My vision of the classic fortified medieval castle as we have it today. A classic tourist attraction both for kids and adults with all accompanying events and features. From fair where you can buy "autentic" (made in China) medieval weapons, utensils and armors to medieval show program and entertainers.

MOC is laid over 20 baseplates, and originally started as a large castle project, but was later decided to move it a couple of hundred years in the future - Today. It was displayed in klub "Kockice" city diorama at Varazdin exhibition, and will be displayed on LEGO World Kopenhagen this year.

So Mark of Falworth suggested some 'CASTLE!' figs to me so I decided to make two. ;-) I might as well write a story for both. :p

The figure to the right is a dashing, brave warrior that happens to be the commander of the Elite Guard in the Capital City of Loreos. His hair is perfect, and is not afraid to get it mussed up unlike some other Loreesi Warrior. ( ;-) ) He is a brilliant tactician who he himself conducted the defense of the King's Garrison and defeated more than 50 Outlaw Knights in that single engagement, armed with only his trusty walking stick. He is only known by one name, and that name instantly strikes fear into any enemy who hears it: MB. ;3

The figure on the left is the second in charge of the King's Elite Guard, whose name is Jonathan. He is dressed head to toe in armor, and as the Capital City fell, escorted Commander MB out the city to fight another day. Now, as the world falls into chaos, these two brave warriors will stop at nothing but to free their land and restore order.

This is my submission for the "Adventuring Party" category of the Brickscalibur 2024 contest.

Actually, the party split in two teams over time, a good and an evil one.

On the good side:

• Sir John of Thunderwood, leading the team

• Lady Storm with her reconnaissance falcon

• Harold Kane, responsible for transportation

• Little Mike, Sir Thunderwoods helping hand

On the evil side:

• Baron von Barron, the head behing the evil plans

• Lord Palomar, a archeology specialist from the mediterranean

• The "Sinister Lady" Alexia, keeping the enemies at a distance

• A former palace guard from the east, hired to do the dirty work

Morning idea !!

A little church i built for my medieval village.

Medieval glass relocated into the window of the south porch. The fifteenth century glass includes parts of an Annunciation and tracery elements with angels and greyhounds.

Heading over the Gloucestershire border Dymock church was my first port of call, and a fascinating building it is too. Tucked away in its leafy enclosure of a churchyard, St Mary's is still largely a Norman building though with many later modifications. The section of blind-arcading on the south side of the chancel is the biggest initial indication of 12th century work (formerly this would have been connected to the now lost apse, replaced by the usual square termination in the following centuries). The south doorway in the porch is also Norman work with a foliate design on the tympanum. The tower with its short spire at the west end is a 15th century addition.

Upon entering the church one is first distracted by the window to the left of the Norman doorway, for this contains 15th century glass, presumably gathered here from another window inside the church (I don't think I've seen this situation before, where the church's most valuable remaining medieval glass is relegated to the porch, but at least it can be easily studied).

Inside the nave is rather dark and tunnel-like thanks to the long Norman walls (sadly scraped of their plaster in the Victorian period) that become more punctuated towards the east end by windows and arches into chancel and transept. A plaster ceiling above at least dispels some of the gloom below. It is an intriguing space that takes some time to explore, with a few memorials and older features of note, and some early windows by Kempe.

Dymock church is normally kept open and welcoming to visitors (when signing the visitors book I noticed I'd just missed out on bumping into some friends here from Stroud just the day before!).

Please enjoy.

I wanted to experiment some with different types of walls for early medieval buildings and inspired by Derfel's building guide it turned into a small scene :) I miss a longboat though but these blasted bricks won't bend like i want them to!

A typical inn from days gone by. Let's call it "The Leaping Pony". There are interiors but they're kind of "meh"... I'll post them if I improve them.

The images from this series remind me when I used to have to push Tri-X at hockey games, in terms of grain and tones
