Il meraviglioso e ormai quasi estinto Colobo rosso, che vive solo a Zanzibar.
Alcune informazioni su questo splendido animale.
A differenza del leopardo, il colobo rosso (Piliocolobus kirkii) fortunatamente è scampato alla pesante riduzione dell’habitat naturale ed alla caccia senza controllo ed oggi è la specie bandiera di Zanzibar.
Il nome lo deve principalmente al colore del suo mantello, rosso appunto, attraversato da una striscia nera che fa da cornice ad un simpatico muso anch’esso nero che si alterna ad un ventre pallido. Le lunghe braccia e zampe si associano ad una lunga coda che fa da bilanciere permettendo lunghi salti tra un albero e l’altro.
Il colobo è un animale sociale che vive in gruppi formati da diversi esemplari maschi circondati da numerose femmine e cuccioli.
Il carattere mite permette la visione ravvicinata da parte dell’uomo che tuttavia deve ridurre al massimo l’impatto della sua presenza riducendo i rumori ed evitando il contatto diretto.

"Look at me." says the handsome Wood duck drake to a nearby hen, "Am I not the one. Look at my beautiful white abdomen and spotted chest. Look at my strong wings" he say while flapping them. "I am the one." He performed this courtship display several times, allowing me to move a yard or so to capture the event in perfect symmetry.
I was surprised to see courtship displays in November as spring is a long way off. I also photographed Hooded merganser's courtship displays a week earlier.
Wood ducks pair up in late winter and begin breeding in early spring.

Forget-me-nots are any one of a number of species of flowering plants in the genus Myosotis. Its common name was calqued from German, Vergissmeinnicht and first used in English in AD 1398 through King Henry IV.. Similar names and variations are found in many languages.

Why is it called "forget-me-not flower"?
According to a medieval legend, a French knight walked along a river with his lady. He bent down to fetch her a pretty little blue flower, but his heavy armor made him lose his balance and he fell into the current. Before sinking forever, he threw the flower to his lady, shouting ""don't forget me""!
