The final event for the Burt Munro Challenge was the street race held on Sunday 12th February within an industrial park in Invercargill. Another well run event with perfect weather and a large crowd of spectators in attendance. Again a huge range of bikes were in action on the track, or you could wander around the streets that made up the pit area to look at the bikes or talk to the riders. This event capped off a great weekend of racing action.

After attending the 38th VCC National Motorcycle Rally we stayed on in Invercargill for the Burt Munro Challenge starting the next week and comprising a number of racing events over four days. The “Burt” has been running for 16 years celebrating the achievements of past local, Burt Munro. Photos will be posted in individual albums for each event I took photos on.
This first album was from the Bluff Hill Climb held on Thursday 9th February. Held in clearing showers we managed to get a lift in the car for the 25 km drive south of Invercargill. A great event with a wide range of bike ages competing from pre war vintage through to modern. There was a massive difference between the spectacle of the early bikes climbing the hill compared to the raw power and speed of the quads and modern high performance bikes. While a great spectacle the day was marred by two different incidents resulting in injuries to spectators. The event was completed after then pulling all spectators off the hill, which made the start area packed as we watched the riders launch on their runs.
