KraftWork Marvelous Flying Machine
Semaphore Sunday finds us frozen in New York State, where on a very cold morning D&H train #MB-1 rolls westward kicking up plenty of powdery snow. During this era, It was rather typical even if sort of unwanted, to find this westbound as the first daylight action when visiting the old EL mainline. But at least it was a train to chase, and something to do as one hoped for an eastbound freight out of Buffalo. This train has two GP39-2 diesels for power, of which the D&H owned 40 units, 20 original purchase versions and 20 picked up from the Reading Lines.
Being that this is also Christmas, my best wishes for everyone to have a great Christmas. I thought I'd provide my wishes in the two most common languages of my Flickr followers, assuming the rest will also understand one or the other.

Vehicle History
One of the iconic vehicles of World War II is the Willys Jeep or to give it proper name the Willys MB 1⁄4-ton, 4×4, Command Reconnaissance truck. Over 650,000 of these vehicles were produced between 1941 and 1945 and it became the primary light wheeled transport vehicle of the United States Military and its Allies in World War II. After World War II, the Willys MB continued to serve, in the Korean War and other conflicts, until it was updated in the form of the M38 Willys MC and the M38A1 Willys MD (in 1949 and 1952 respectively). According to the DVLA LXS 125 dates from 1943.

Taken with a Sony A7R and a non-Ai Nikkor 105mm f/2.5 lens (the K version with the Gauss optical formula). As you might imagine, this setup is quite heavy. If you’re a hard-core Nikon film camera buff, you probably know all about this classic Nikon camera and its accessories. If not (or you need a refresher), then read on: the MD-3 was the motor drive aimed at advanced amateurs with a lower frame advance rate compared to the pro-oriented models. In combination with the MB-2 battery pack which holds eight AA batteries, you had to be an ardent amateur to carry this combination for non-paying photography. The rechargeable ni-cads of the MB-1 battery pack have long since gone kaput so as it turns out, decades later, the MB-2 wins for longevity.

Finally! A recently acquired Nikon F2A with a Nikon MD-2 Motor Drive. It's a very well-used camera set that arrived dirty but working. It cleaned up nicely (I know how to detail a camera). I can't wait to give it a go, but since I've sold off all of my AI Nikkor lenses, I'll have to purchase a "new" one. I'm waiting on a new battery magazine for the Nikon MB-1 Battery Pack (it takes two magazines), so that part is untested ATM. The meter looks good, and the camera sounds excellent. It was professionally serviced back in 1992. The seals look good, so I should be good to go once I get the lens (AI 50mm f2).

Lightning should strike me for such hubris but I was quite intimidated by the idea of a black & white landscape. Were the details color dependent? So I was *completely* thrilled by how this landscape rendered into black-and-white, with the tonal variations of the field and mountain and the fluffy clouds in the sky.
This land is the 1200 acre parcel of preserved farmland & wildlife habitat known as the “Sunny M Ranch” outside Winthrop, WA, preserved by the Methow Conservancy.
