Section through the Mandelbrot-Julia set, defined as the points (z,c) in C^2 where z_{n+1}=z_n^2+c does not diverge for z_0=z. This section corresponds to c=0.4*i+a real number. The color denotes the magnitude of the smallest iterate.

Love, horticulture and Matlab were just a few of the topics illuminated in 11,000 donated books strewn over an 8,000 square foot stretch of E. Liberty St. in Ann Arbor, MI on October 23, 2018.
Devised by Spanish art collective Luzinterruptus and brought to Michigan by the U-M Institute for the Humanities, the glowing installation offered Ann Arborites a central place to gather and share in their appreciation for the written word. As the sky became black, the piece turned interactive, inviting onlookers to take from the collection, adding to their own.

A distribution plot of the Political Compass results from group members to date (n = 61). The yellow marker denotes the sample mean.
Where are all the authoritarian communists?
For reference: this distribution is strongly biased because it is drawn from (1) people who are members of Flickr; (2) people who have chosen to take the Political Compass test; and (3) people who have responded to a request to include their results in this Flickr group. As a result, the distribution is (very) unlikely to be representative of the wider public view.
That last caveat made, it does seem to be the case that Flickr members are predominantly in the lower left quadrant (myself included). There are a few in the right quadrants who have been invited but haven't (yet) added their scores to the group, but probably no more than there are of bottom-lefties who haven't added their scores.
this video is created by MATLAB vector field visualization toolbox (by user nima bigdely shamlo)
here is the sample code which is used to create this video:
vx=inline('3*x.^2-5*y.*x','x','y');
vy=inline('7*y-5*x./y','x','y');
x=0.01:0.01:5;
y=0.01:0.01:5;
[X,Y]=meshgrid(x,y);
vx_val=vx(X,Y);
vy_val=vy(X,Y);
[RECT, LICMOVIE] = explorevfield(vx_val,vy_val);axis equal;
LICMOVIE=animvfield(vx_val,vy_val,1,100);axis equal;

I stacked 14 images together with Matlab (still images grabbed from a video at 60 fps) in two different ways: straight forward (right), and with a constant shift on x axis between each image (left) in order to "follow" the car, thus simulating a camera travelling along with the moving object (but the camcorder remained steady). The stacking just consists in averaging the pixel values of the superimposed images (with a hint of higher lights to spice it, hush-hush...).

Scherk's surface is defined by exp(z)cos(x)-cos(y)=0. If z is treated as a complex number rather than a real and multiplied by exp(it) the solution to Re(exp(z)cos(x)-cos(y))=0 performs this curious dance act. The color denotes the imaginary part.
This set works nicely as a slideshow.

The t-values for the temperature anomaly data within a ten degree grid cell over a decade: high or low values indicate a likely deviation from zero.
Note that the amount of data in each cell varies from cell to cell, so the same t-value may be significant in one cell but not another. To check wheter it is, see the significance map.

Intensity profile and hamiltonian cycle for a 4-phase scanner that is based on the principle of only swapping an adjacent pair of intensities from region to region.
The RGB phases all yield the same information, with cyan being the only non-symmetric phase.

This is a pretty old picture I took this on the 14th of August. I like the fact that right atop the flag of our amazing country is the answer to its meaning. As we say Pakistan ka matlab kia ? La illa illallah muhammad ur rasoolallah
Aakhir hai Kya Azadi shabd ka sahi matlab?
Sabke lie matlab hai alag…
Kisi ke lie Azadi makaan ko ghar banane ki , kisi ke lie Azadi shehar mein khud ka ashiana banane ki , kisi ke lie Azadi ankhon mein saje khawabon ko haqeeqat banane ki, ya fir kisi ke lie Azadi time par possession paane ki!!

School of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and Directorate of Research Development and Resource Mobilization hosted a MATLAB workshop on 10-11th November 2022 at Goa University.
Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh H E Charlotta Schlyter, Ms Carin Zetterlund, First Secretary/Deputy Head of Development Section and Ms Lena Nordström, Head of Staff MoFA visited icddr,b’s Matlab field site - one of the developing world’s richest, most comprehensive and longest-running data resources.
The guests visited icddr,b health and demographic data collection facilities, ongoing studies in the villages, the Matlab hospital, especially providing services for women and children and a mother care unit.
The guests also took a boat ride to Matlab, using the same route once taken by hundreds of thousands of cholera patients from remote areas to reach icddr,b’s floating hospital on a barge, which now remains parked at Matlab, bearing witness to the history of humanitarian efforts. MatLab-based video analysis shows that the ball reaches 14 m/s after the kick. The collision time is around 17 ms (4*1/240 s). The ball is not well-pumped (rather soft).
