An amazing narrow bodied 1915 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Dual Cowl Phaeton built for the 20 year old 'Count' Louis Vorow Zborowski , who, on his mother's death (an extremely wealthy Astor grandaughter), 16-year-old Louis instantly became the fourth richest under-21-year-old in the world, with cash of £11 million and real estate in the United States, including 7 acres (2.8 ha) of Manhattan and several blocks on Fifth Avenue, New York. His Father (who took on the title of Count without evidence of actual nobility) was a race-car driver who
had been killed in a Mercedes 60 at the 1903 La Turbie Hill-climb. He was American of Polish descent, and brought his wife and son to Britain.
Louis was besotted with automobiles, and racing. and had the money and time to indulge the racing of really BIG cars after the war concluded, thanks to the availability of war-surplus aircraft power units at knockdown prices, you could stuff huge engines in chassis and REALLY race.
When he took his first monster to the Brooklands track, they insisted he have a name for the creature, and having turned down his first submission, he submitted 'Chitty Bang Bang', and not knowing of the ribald song origin of the name used freely in the Royal Air Corp, they accepted.......Chitty (later chit) is based on a Hindi name for a small paper note, and Chitty bang bang refers to the slip of paper allowing the flyers off base to use the local brothel. Since the car was LOUD
the local town folk used it joyfully!
Ian Flemming, as a lad, watched the races at Brooklands with glee, and many years later used the name in his children's book......and Disney......and we all grew up seeing that flying car......
In January 1922 Louis, his wife Vi, Clive Gallop and Pixi Marix together with a couple of mechanics took Chitty Bang Bang 2 and the White Mercedes across the Mediterranean for a drive into the Sahara Desert, in the tracks of Citroën's Kégresse-track-equipped expedition.
In the 1923 Indianapolis 500 Zborowski drove a Bugatti. He drove in the 1923 Italian Grand Prix at Monza in a car designed by American engineer Harry Arminius Miller, the single-seat "American Miller 122".
Zborowski joined the Mercedes team in 1924 but died in one of their cars, after hitting a tree during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. He was just 29 years old.
Like his father, he lived on the edge, and perished while racing.

At a standing cafe specializing in specialty coffee.
The Leica IIIf is not equipped with a self timer. So I got a small self-timer called "Leitz Self Timer APDOO", which is a separate accessory for IIIf, and took pictures. It's embarrassing to unconsciously raise my little finger (^^;
