This Mack RD originally worked out of Waste Management's Elgin hauling operation that is now closed. It isn't uncommon for former Elgin units to still have "Elgin, IL" printed on the door, or have an "E" next to its number, as seen here. This truck, as well as other former Elgin units, now operates out of Batavia.

This unit was one of many Waste Management roll offs hauling leaves in Elgin this year.

PWM stands for Plant Water Management. A novel way to use hydroponics to grow plants in space – no earth (lower case 😉) required! As demonstrated here by Mark (who has great pedagogical skills), and me (who was not very awake apparently 😜). Growing plants and food in space is important as fresh food has the most vitamins and is healthiest. We have made great progress growing crops in weightlessness where nothing is easy. How do you get food into the plant roots in an environment where their is no soil, no rain and even if there was it would float all around! Hydroponics is the answer in this experiment where everything a plant needs is "injected" straight to the roots, the red fluids you can see. Researchers compare results with control studies on Earth to prepare for longer voyages farther into our Solar System. www.nasa.gov/feature/glenn/2021/project-examines-how-to-w...

Here is a Waste Management 96 gallon Cascade on Milwaukee's South Side.

WM’s flagship truck in the area, a Mack LE 25yd McNeilus.

This Deffenbaugh Industries Heil Half/Pack Front Loader was seen servicing a Waste Management container in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The truck originally came from Kansas City, Kansas. What I found most interesting about this truck is that it had Kansas license plates, a sticker on the door that read "Waste Management of Nebraska", and was collecting garbage in Iowa.

For a time, Peterbilts were the standard units being used by Waste Management in the District of Columbia for the collection of commercial waste and recycling. Some Peterbilt front loaders still work in the District on a daily basis, but are in the of process being replaced by CNG units.

This truck was collecting recyclables in a service alley off of Connecticut Avenue near DuPont Circle.

One of Waste Management of Wheeling's first CNG trucks. I believe the blue flames were to show off the fact that the truck ran on natural gas.

Despite numerous attempts by corporate management to kill off Union Pacific's Permanente Local, through a number of scheduling changes and managing to piss off every customer on the line with inconsistent service, the train once again came back from the dead on a cloudy April morning. The night prior, the crew of another train (the Mission Bay Local, which normally runs to South San Francisco) was tasked to take a 25-car cement train up to Lehigh Southwest Cement and return back to Warm Springs with a single lumber car from the other customer on the line. As with many things on the railroad, things did not go according to plan and the train was forced to stop for the night in Cupertino - only a few hours into their trip. The next morning, the train sat under stormy skies until eventually a relief crew was called to finish the work and bring the engines back to Warm Springs.

This is likely one of the oldest units that Waste Management runs out of their Gaithersburg, Maryland shop. Likely from the earlier 2000s, it certainly has seen better days, but it is still capable of getting the job done when it is needed to fill in as a spare for a front line truck.

In one of the neighborhoods in Pune, Waste Management is done every morning. People keep trash in boxes or bags outside their homes. This lovely man in a cart comes and collects it for the whole neighborhood. This guy is pretty cool and even his waster management cart has attitude! Its name is "Tim Luck Luck" :)

N898JM, a Bombardier BD-700-2A12 Global 7500, heading north on taxiway "Echo" at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario.

It was departing as EJM70 (Executive Jet Management, Inc.) to Teterboro, New Jersey.

Serial number 70161 had been delivered seven days earlier and was heading to its home for the first time. N898JM was previously worn on a Global 6000 that operated as EJM898.

Waste Management and Texarkana have delivered these huge trash and recycle bins that we are REQUIRED to use starting on Monday. They are way too big and I will bet that most of them will stay street side in many neighborhoods in TXK. Don't get me wrong, I am all for recycling and we have been doing it since it was instituted in TXK years ago. But these cans are too big. We wouldn't fill the trash can or the recycle bin up in 3 months! They are 8 inches taller than the brick wall we have built to hide the trash cans. And on top of that the outrageous color stands out like a sore thumb. I called the city spokesman Vicki Melde when this was proposed and got no answer when I asked if they were required and expressed concern as to the size. They have this is Shreveport LA and the trash cans just stay on the street in many areas. I am starting a picture campaign on my flickr site of UGLY trash cans in Texarkana, I may start a group if I get enough pics.

So, once a week, we are required to drag this UGLY trash can out to the street for 3 bags of trash. We are not allowed to used a smaller can or put the bags on the street. Sounds like discrimination to older and handicapped people to me. I understand you can call the city and make arrangements to have the can moved to the street for you. Are they going to come back and put them back in place every week? I would really like some answers to these questions, but get none when I call the city.

Another problem. When I dragged these out for the picture, they had ice on them. Later when I went back to put them back, the ice had melted and I didn't notice it. When I pulled it back to roll it, well you know where the water went. This will be fun with all the rain that we have here.
