"Inauguration fever" seems to be sweeping the Washington area. This might look like a site that's all dressed up for an inaugural ball but it's really a shopping mall in Pentagon City, Virginia. Since all the bridges from Virginia into Washington will be closed on inauguration day, it's unlikely a ball could be held here. I'm still debating whether to try to find a place on the "real" Mall in Washington in the midst of the crowds gathered to be present at this historic event. Highest Explore #150.
Another shot while walking around inside the mall. Tried my best to frame this as best as i could. but i guess my best was not good enough.

The shopping district was heavily hit in the earthquake of 2011, so the city has now a temporary shopping mall made of shipping containers called the Re:start Mall. It's a great place to wander around, and was certainly busy the afternoon we visited. Plenty of shops, food outlets and artwork on display.
Here is an abadoned Randall Park Mall entrance on the west side of the old mall. This has been closed since 2009 when the mall closed. The label-scar on the entrance is from "Jeepers!", an old indoor amusement park.
The Randall Park Mall was opened in 1976 and was briefly the largest shopping center in the world, topping in at 2 million square feet. JCPenney, Horne's, Sears, May Company, and Higbee's were the original anchor stores. Sadly, the mall had a decline which led to its closure in 2009. Burlington Coat Factory (former Horne's) is the only "anchor" at the site. The Power Sport institute and a furniture liquidation center are the only other remaining businesses here. The rest of the mall has been left to rot. I wish I could get to go inside of this mall for pictures especially since it is planned to be demolished for an industrial park soon.

Burger King at Arnot Mall has the 70's logo and wood-trim from the era. Sources suggest the sign had been removed for a remodel of the food court.

Schuylkill Mall is a former Crown American Mall in Frackville Pennsylvania. It's pretty much original, and has a lot of the Crown American hallmarks. Taken on 9/30/06
Original Spencer Gifts storefront and labelscar. The previous time I had been to the mall before this visit, it was still open, and very vintage. Spencer's is gone completely from the mall.
**These were taken with my old camera, which was not good without flash. I was also being followed by security and maintenance. I'm hoping to get some updated shots soon**
Originally Woolworth, now OfficeMax.
OfficeMax does not have a mall entrance. It also looks like I surprised the delivery driver...
The 390,834 square foot Richmond Square Mall was developed by The Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation in 1966. The original anchor stores were department stores Montgomery Ward and JCPenney along with junior anchor F.W. Woolworth Co. Montgomery Ward later became Sears (now closed) and Woolworth became OfficeMax. Dillard's would be built onto the mall in 1997.
In the late 2000s, the Richmond Square Mall started struggling. It lost Sears in 2013 as well as many of the stores inside the mall. The mall was sold in 2015 to Hull Property Group. In 2016, the mall underwent a major renovation and changed its name to Richmond Mall. The remodel brought new carpeting to the mall, the vacant stores were sealed up, and new signage was installed. While the interior is still largely empty, three of the four anchor store slots are still occupied by JCPenney, OfficeMax, and Dillard's.

Wikipedia : Mall walking is a form of exercise in which people walk or jog through the usually long corridors of shopping malls. Many malls open early so that people may mall walk; stores and other such facilities generally do not open at this time, though vending machine concessions are available. Many choose to mall walk as the indoor climate is comfortable and there is easy access to amenities, such as benches, toilets, and water fountains. Clean and level surfaces also provide a safe walking environment.

Wenn der Shoppingtrip mal wieder etwas länger und ausufernd war, einfach mal ein Mall taxi ordern. Das bringt einen dann ganz entspannt fast bis zum eigenen Auto. - If the shopping trip was again a little longer and overflowing, just order a Mall taxi. That brings you then completely relaxed almost up to the own car.
