I spotted this Tortoise and his Human Pal taking an ocean-front walk along the cliffs of Palos Verdes California. One thing about California, you will usually find something interesting or unusual, even when you're not looking for it : )

The Tortoise:

Tortoises are "cold-blooded," meaning their body temperature varies with the surrounding environment. They are also herbivores, meaning they eat plants. Tortoises are found in a variety of habitats, including deserts, forests, grasslands, and swamps.

There are over 300 species of tortoises, and they come in a wide range of sizes. The smallest tortoise is the speckled padloper tortoise, which is only about 4 inches long. The largest tortoise is the Galapagos tortoise, which can grow to be over 150 pounds.

Tortoises are long-lived animals. Some species can live for over 100 years. The oldest known tortoise is a Galapagos tortoise named Jonathan, who is over 190 years old.

Here are some interesting facts about tortoises:

Tortoises have been around for over 200 million years.

The largest tortoise ever recorded was a Galapagos tortoise named "Johnathan" who weighed over 500 pounds and was over 190 years old.

Tortoises are very good at conserving water. They can go for long periods of time without drinking.

Tortoises are not very good swimmers.

Tortoises are very social animals and enjoy spending time with other tortoises.

Tortoises can be very affectionate and make great pets.

Reddish Egrets are always good at that while foraging.

Boiling water, a willing husband and a gorgeous cold day makes for an epic photo.

Smile on Saturday - ON THE MOVE

Behind the scenes look of my tracks across the mud flats trying to get to a spot for sunset - at least finding my way back to my Outback was easy; I just followed my tracks.

The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the shot.

The curve billed thrasher was after something that was in the hanging branch so he decided to make the leap. Fortunately I was watching and grabbed an image of this action

Wishing you a great and blessed day !

A female black redstart I think...

From my card making box. The size of everything is pretty much exactly a credit card which I also used to push things into their place but something always seems to have moved on its own The little hearts are so tiny I couldn't see which way they were pointing.

Macro Monday's theme is timepiece ... an old watch captured over some pretty bokeh.

This was captured by placing a piece of sequined fabric down, then a Chap Stick standing on end, with the watch balanced on the top of the Chap Stick. This gave a nice distance between the watch and fabric for some nice bokeh. Used a light on the fabric, and then window light on the watch interior. Hence it appears to be floating in the bokeh, but captured in one 8 second capture.

Green Grass Dart (Ocybadistes walkeri)

These two were busy doing their bit to continue the species yesterday.

These girls were having their own little private party on a chilly beach, you go, girls!

Wire fence found on my snowy outing a few days ago. Someone must have tied red plastic bits to it to make it more visible. I am sure they were bigger originally but have withered away.

Have a great weekend everyone!
