These little custom magnetic bricks pack quite a punch!
I found the smallest and heaviest thing in my garage to test the strength of the 2x4 brick magnet. The winner is a 1 pound cold steel hex chisel.
The magnet had absolutely no problem attaching to the chisel and could probably hold up to 2 lbs easily. The magnetic pull was so strong that I had to take pictures of them individually becuase when I tried to take a picture of them all together they either repelled or attached each other making a clump of magnetic bricks.
THE PROS:
1. Its small
2. its a Lego brick
3. looks cool on the fridge
4. It's crazy strong and will hold almost anything to your fridge without breaking a sweat
THE CONS:
1. the list of things these magnets can damage is fairly long. (electronic devises, cards with magnet strips, etc.)
2. can effect the the operation of pacemakers or similar medical devises.
3. If you randomly decided to bake your brick in the oven above 175 degrees the magnet will loose it's magnetic properties
Do the pros outweigh the cons? I'd love to hear what you think.
[edit] I did some additional research and it sounds like magnets in general do all the damage listed above and the warning sheet I got is kind of like the "The state of California has determined that this product will give you cancer" that you see on almost everything. I also read that even a cell phone battery can screw up your pacemaker.

Sorting out my study today.
I've got about 150 of these. I picked this at random. The artwork inside these things is incredible.
I think it was probably these books that started me off on a lifelong reading habit.
I actually had this book as a kid - not this particular copy, I picked this up at a car boot sale.
They really are informative, artistic, sharply written, incredibly stylish and charming.
I don't think there is any real equivalent nowadays.
While doing housecleaning I found a magnet I thought was long gone. Sometimes it's good to clean house!

These are magnets made with (North American) stickers and a sheet of magnetic material. Simple enough to put on the magnet sheet, much more difficult than originally thought to cut them all out. The first one is fun, the second not so much, the tenth is simply annoying. :D
Also a couple of Japanese Gashapon magnets.

A brother and two sisters created these whale magnets together during the Eagle Festival on Saturday. It was so sweet to watch them make suggestions to each other about the shapes and stickers they should use. They gave me permission to take this photo of their whales. :-)

Created for a gelli print magnet swap. All papers used were gelli prints. The hearts were embellished with various fibers, glitter, and glass microbeads.
On the backside was a gelli print of a brick wall with the poem:

Magnet is 1" in diameter. Frame is about 2.75" across.
I always wanted one of these and now I finally have one to display a bunch of pretty ATC's/ACEO's and fun magnets I recieved in swaps and from friends :)
5/8" N42 grade NdFeB magnet attached to a 3/8" steel ball bearing via a 3/16" long 1/8" diameter NdFeB cylinder.

ODC - MAGNET or MAGNETIC - 14th - 20th October 2024 a very sweet friend just gave me this one, she was just over in Italy for week, he is so cute and he also sits so you don't have to keep in on the refrig.
The young lady was magnet fishing in the canal at Curzon Street when she was joined by the lad with the bike.
The scene is due to change dramatically. This is where HS2 will cross the canal, two bridges will span it as the tracks leave the station, one set for London and one set to go north. The sheer width is obvious by the constuction site behind.

I'm kind of shocked no one else seems to have thought of this, but it works!
This uncoupler uses the power of the Micromotor. The idea is a turning magnet, which switches from “magnet”-side to “brick”-side. In “brick”-side mode, there is enough clearance between the other magnet and the “brick”-side that they won’t stick together. Both the normal technic gear and the one with the friction-thingy (the one used here) work, but I found out the one with the friction-thingy works better in case the whole magnet gets stuck; with the normal gear it takes the Micromotor a lot more power to get back into “normal” mode.
Next thing I want to do is to build this thing into the bogies of a loco, thus creating a prototypically switcher. Stay tuned ;)
Re-using an egg box to make a magnet storage box.
I removed the label that was on it. then I glued a bit of the gorgeous kraft paper Clare used to send us a gift (that we got today, thanks again so much !!).
I also cut a little part of the paper graphics (three stockings) & glued them in the inner part of the lid. Ta Da ! Loving it ! I may even add a lovely white & red label on top & write "Christmas Magnets", but I'm not sure yet. (Dec. 27th 2008)
