I Re Magi arrivarono a Milano nel secondo ventennio del IV secolo, su un carro tirato da un bue ed un lupo. Si fermarono poco prima di porta Ticinese, e li rimasero fino alla calata del Barbarossa. Con lui partirono alla volta di Colonia ed a Milano non rintornarono più, se non ...in briciole. Ad accompagnargli in Italia era stato Eustorgio, acclamato vescovo dai milanesi nell'anno 315. Recatosi a Costantinopoli per ottenere come d'uso, la convalida della propria elezione dall'imperatore Costante, Eustorgio era ritornato in patria con un regalo davvero augusto: le spoglie dei tre Re Magi, ritrovate -pochi anni prima- da Sant'Elena, madre di Costantino. Il viaggio da Costantinopoli a Milano non fu facile per il vescovo e i tre saggi. Subito dopo lo sbarco in Italia, l'urna contenente le preziose reliquie era stata caricata su di un carro trainato da due buoi, ma durante il cammino un lupo aveva assalito e ucciso uno dei due animali. Come fare per proseguire il viaggio? Per nulla scoraggiato, Eustorgio riuscì ad ammansire il lupo ed ad aggiogarlo al carro insieme con l'altro bue. Il vescovo Gaspare, Melchiorre e Baldassarre, riuscirono così ad arrivare alle porte di Milano. Non ce la fecero però ad entrare in città: nei pressi di Porta Ticinese, infatti, il carro divento così pesante che nessuno riuscì più a spostarlo di un millimetro. I tre Magi, evidentemente, avevano voluto fare di testa loro nella scelta della loro dimora milanese. Durante la calata del Barbarossa, l'arcivescovo Rainaldo di Colonia, riuscì a far includere le spoglie nel bottino di guerra così da accrescere il prestigio della cattedrale di Colonia, allora in costruzione. Ai milanesi rimase solamente il ricordo, con il sarcofago vuoto.749 anni dopo il furto Milano ebbe indietro qualcosa: due fibule, una tibia ed una vertebra, consegnate all'arcivescovo, cardinal Ferrari dal suo collega di Colonia, Fischer.
I pochi resti tornarono in gran pompa a Milano nell'agosto del 1903, riprendendo l'antico posto nella basilica di Sant Eustorgio.
Il 6 gennaio per festeggiare l'epifania, tutti gli anni la città festeggia con una processione capitanata dai Re Magi: parte da Piazza Duomo, fa tappa alle colonne di San Lorenzo per l'incontro con Re Erode e si conclude alla basilica di Sant Eustorgio per la deposizione dei doni al Presepio.
The Magi came to Milan in the latter decades of the fourth century, on a chariot pulled by an ox and a wolf. They stopped just before the door of Ticino, and remained there until the descent of Barbarossa. With him traveled to Cologne and Milan not rintornarono most, if not ... in crumbs. Accompanying him in Italy was Eustorgio acclaimed Bishop of Milan in the year 315. Who went to Constantinople to obtain as usual, the validation of his election by the emperor Constans, Eustorgio had returned home in August with a gift really: the remains of the Magi, found first-few-years from Saint Helena, mother Constantine. The journey from Constantinople to Milan was not easy for the bishop and the three wise men. Immediately after landing in Italy, the urn containing the relics had been loaded on a cart pulled by two oxen, but along the way a wolf had attacked and killed one of two animals. How to continue the journey? Undeterred, Eustorgio managed to tame the wolf and yoked to the cart along with the other ox. Bishop Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar, were able to get so close to Milan. But they did not succeed to enter the city: near Porta Ticinese, in fact, the car became so heavy that no longer able to move an inch. The three Magi, of course, had wanted to do things in their choice of their home in Milan. During the descent of Barbarossa, the archbishop Rainald of Cologne, succeeded in including the spoils of war booty in order to increase the prestige of the Cologne Cathedral, then under construction. In Milan he was only a memory, with the sarcophagus vuoto.749 years after the theft took Milan back something: two fibula, a tibia and a vertebra, delivered to the archbishop, Cardinal Ferrari by his colleague in Cologne, Fischer.
The few remains returned in great pomp in Milan in August 1903, taking place in the ancient basilica of Sant Eustorgio.
On January 6 to celebrate the epiphany, every year the city celebrated with a procession led by the Three Kings: from Piazza Duomo, making a stop to the columns of San Lorenzo for the meeting with King Herod and ends at the Basilica of Sant Eustorgio for the deposition of gifts to the manger.

On the 6th of January, 2020, St. John Cantius Parish celebrated the feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord (1962 Calendar). Fr. Joshua Caswell, SJC, offered the Latin High Mass. Bishop Joseph N. Perry preached the sermon. Each year, in commemoration of the adoration of the three Magi who came from the East to seek the new-born King of the Jews, blessed frankincense and myrrh were distributed, and blessed chalk was used to inscribe the names of the Magi and the date of the New Year above the church door.

Detail of the superb Adoration of the Magi window by Belgian artist Jean Baptiste Capronnier, installed in 1880 in the north aisle.
St Stephen's is the parish church of Redditch and stands at the heart of the town centre. It is a grand edifice built to the designs of Henry Woodyer in 1884-5 with a spacious aisled nave and steeple at the north west corner. The chancel was rebuilt and enlarged to the design of Temple Moore in 1893-4.
The previous church on this site was a humble chapel built only in 1808, there was no medieval settlement here, though nearby once stood Bordesley Abbey, one of the wealthiest Cistercian monasteries in the country. Little survived of the Abbey's buildings beyond the Reformation, though the gate chapel, dedicated to St Stephen, survived and was in use for local worship until it fell into decay and was replaced by the new church on this site. The old chapel was subsequently demolished, but medieval tiles from the Abbey were incorporated into the vestry floor of the present St Stephens and can be seen on request.
The present church is an impressive exercise in Victorian Gothic and posseses some good examples of the work of various 19th century stained glass studios, best of all being the fine north aisle window by Capronnier of Brussels.
