Ma lavande

Fez es una ciudad en el noreste de Marruecos, a menudo llamada la capital cultural del país. Es conocida principalmente por su medina amurallada Fes El Bali, con arquitectura mariní medieval, animados zocos y un ambiente del mundo antiguo. En la medina hay escuelas religiosas, como Bou Inania y Al Attarine, ambas del siglo XIV y decoradas con elaborados tallados en cedro y adornos de azulejos.

Fez is a city in northeastern Morocco, often called the cultural capital of the country. It is best known for its walled Fes El Bali medina, with medieval maritime architecture, lively souks and an ancient world atmosphere. In the medina there are religious schools, such as Bou Inania and Al Attarine, both from the 14th century and decorated with elaborate cedar carvings and tile ornaments.

There is an interesting Japanese philosophy called MA. Its basic premise is that the space between things is an important factor in composition and mostly goes unnoticed by the photographer, but that space holds meaning. It’s not emptiness because it is ripe with potential. It should be used deliberately and add value to a photo. The same principles hold true in music.

Secondly I used silence to allow the spaces to develop without intrusion.

And I used a Meyerowicz rule; “leave the center empty and make the viewer read around your photo.”

Cambioule

The Japanese concept of Ma has been described as “a pause in time”, an interval or emptiness in space. As a music teach once said "Leave space so the high notes can shine".

Ma is not the negative space we photographers utilize in our images, but an emptiness full of potential. It should be deliberate and of value, holding sustenance towards the entirety of the shot.

Western image making seems to suffer from "FTF" : Fill the Frame. where 'empty' zones are frowned upon.
