Celle-ci est une autre photo pour mon cours de photo, cette fois basée sur un rêve que j'ai eu quand j'avais 18 ans. Un grand merci à Pierre d'avoir posé avec moi dans la création de cette image, parmi d'autres.

This image was created for my Lyrical Photo class. Our assignment this week was to create images based on an actual dream that we had. This comes from a dream I had when I was 18 years old. Funny how the memory of some dreams can stay with us for such a long time. A huge thank you to Pierre for posing with me in the creation of this photo, among others.

What would I do without your smart mouth?

Drawing me in, and you kicking me out

You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down

What's going on in that beautiful mind?

I'm on your magical mystery ride

And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright

My head's under water

But I'm breathing fine

You're crazy and I'm out of my mind

'Cause all of me

Loves all of you

Love your curves and all your edges

All your perfect imperfections

Give your all to me

I'll give my all to you

You're my end and my beginning

Even when I lose, I'm winning

'Cause I give you all of me

And you give me all of you

A few images made from the assignment of photographing my family tree, which I spoke of the other day. An homage to the women in my family, notably my grandma, my mom, and my daughter. We transmit a legacy of love for plants and animals, of healing others, of compassion and light.

I'm taking an online class where one of the assignments was to create a series of photos around the notion of one's "family tree." The idea is to relate one or some stories related to our family in a literal or metaphorical sense. This is from that series and speaks of how we remain attached to our family tree while growing in our own directions, holding on to where we came from, while looking out into the larger world. Healthy families give their children both roots and wings. Healthy families teach their children empathy and forgiveness, compassion and love-- for the self as well as for others, to accept the inherent imperfections that exist in everyone. Healthy families teach their children to take risks, to allow themselves to stumble and fall, all the while knowing there will be a safety net beneath them and someone who will dust them off, gently place bandaids over their wounds, listen patiently as they tell their stories, and tell them that everything is going to be okay. Despite some significant loss/trauma during my childhood, I realize how fortunate I am to have had a mom and a grandmother who have done all of these things.

For quite a number of years already I have walked around my village and surrounding countryside, enjoying the beauty of nature and regularly stopping for a photo opp. Sometimes long hikes, more often walks of between one and two hours long.

I have now prepared an exhibition of collages of these "walking the seasons"-pictures, in which I tried to combine them thematically: geografical, seasonal, natural, formal, etc.

If there is one common denominator it seems to me that all photo''s fall under so-called lyrical photography, celebrating the diverse beauty of my surroundings: the northern side of the old border region of Westerwolde. All pictures were shot between 2005 and 2018, many with my successive cell phones, others with a small compact camera. Some of them have of course featured here on flickr in the past as individual uploads.

Of the 21 collages I made, sixteen (in 50cm x50cm frames) will be shown in a lunchroom gallery in a neighboring village between April 1st and mid June of this year.

The subject of this first collage is the small forest with ponds and stream where I walk most often: the Veendiepsbos, no more than twenty minutes hiking from my home.

sun, sun, sun, stay with me

don't go behind the clouds

I know that you'll go down

but while it's day, let your light hit me

cause if I lose you now

I fear I could bow out

and I don't know where I'm going to

when I get there, i'll send for you

and I'll know when i see it, but

be patient, I swear I'll come through

so ride, ride, ride, ride your pony

but please don't ride him far

no, stay within the yard

it played out just like you told me

I'd scratch your pretty eyes

I'll put out those little lights

but your heart, I didn't break it, no

it was taken from you years ago

and the hole those older men pulled it through

it's still aching

let's be patient, you'll pull through

pull through

pull through

pull through

won't you?

and I've made

I've made up for my mistakes

cause of the pain of what I'd caused

won't be shit next to what I've lost

and I hated being fucking patient

so you waited

you waited

you waited

but I never ever came to

so sun, sun, sun

what are you doing?

you went behind the clouds

but all the rain came down

my old house is in ruins

if you would come out again

and dry up all the rain

then I'd climb right up again

like that spider in that nursery rhyme

and these tales, well they're not meant to

but it's time that we make them

come true

come true

come true

for me and you

Title: Glasslight Reverie

Caption:

A single step into the light—bare, unguarded, and quiet. The air is cool against skin, the floor beneath still damp from a rain that passed hours ago. Outside, the world blurs into soft green and silver, but here, in this narrow pause between shadow and glass, there is only the sound of breath and the slow weight of time.

Artist Process:

The composition isolates the figure from the waist down, letting the leg’s curve become the focal point against the geometric lines of the weathered window. The glistening wooden floor adds a textural counterpoint, capturing subtle light from outside. The camera’s low perspective enhances the intimacy of the moment, while the shallow depth of field keeps the background dreamlike, suggesting a separation between the figure’s inner stillness and the outside world.
