Guided and self-guided walking holidays in the Cotswolds and the Heart of England with walkthelandsape.co.uk.
A green ribbon surrounded by hard-core desert. Nothing is straightforward about roaming it’s walls. I marvelled at its beauty, zigzagging aimlessly from one surprise to another. The Gila always inspires!
The lower photo was taken at White Rocks (BLM Public Land)
White Rocks is less than a mile from the northern border of Dugway Proving Grounds.
Here a two notes I found on a BLM website..
1.
We would like to know from a different (public) perspective if we are adequately dealing with the public hazards associated with the Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS)Yellow Jacket/Southern Triangle and the White Rocks Sheep Burial Site.
2.
The Yellow Jacket/Southern Triangle sites were contaminated in the 1940s in connection with tests designed to fight the Japanese in bunkers and tunnels. The White Rocks Sheep Burial Site is the location (on Public Lands) of the burial of 1,720 sheep suspected of dying after consuming vegetation contaminated with VX nerve agent.
The Sheep incident I remember hearing about.
On the FUDS, Yellow Jacket/Southern Triangle, I posted This last May.

Mark explaining the history of Booze Creek and where the creek fits into the larger Cabin John watershed.
Dropping 78 feet (23.8m) this is the second falls encountered on the trail.
The elevation at the trailhead is 1750 feet (533m) and typical of spring we encountered light to moderate rain, hail, and air temp of 37° F (3°C).

This row of shops has now been demolished. The area involved is bounded by Lower Parliament Street, Gedling Street, Nelson Street and, I think, Southwell Road. These will be replaced by a new mixed-use development by Bmor: www.bmor.co.uk/node/43
Shot from Artist's point. These falls are huge, beautiful and powerfull. There's a platform visible on top of the falls, with some people on it, and it's completely dwarfed by the size of the falls (and hard to spot on the photo).
After making this shot, I went to the top of Upper Falls short distance upstream. It wasn't until then that I really realized how huge is the amount of water going down this two falls. And how fast the river is forced to flow, squeezed in narrow canyon.
HDR from three exposures.
Lower Polydome Lake is smaller than upper lake. It also displayed more reflections and the water was calmer
This is one of my dream photo expeditions, the shapes and colors of sandstone in a little crevice in the desert outside Page, Arizona, Lower Antelope Canyon. My sister and I made the trip 120 feet down ladders with other visitors from all over the globe. The tour is about two hours and is simply amazing, The Navajo guide said a sheep fell in the crevice in the early 1900s and a little girl daughter of the farmer went down to look for it and that is when they discovered the what is called a "Slot Canyon". It is possible there are many more, but this one so close to Lake Powell was formed by water run off which over the years has shaped the sandstone to the colors and curves it has today.
The Baroque palace complex was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy in 1723.
There is beautiful gallery, too.
