The insulin affordability crisis was not caused by high carbohydrate diets, and it will not be solved by low-carbohydrate diets. It intersects with a significant increase in insulin resistance and related conditions including diabetes type II and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Bravo #EcoAmerica at #ACLS19 for including #RealFood choices and not including #SugarSweetenedBeverages in the 2019 Climate Leadership Summit.
It’s #HealthyPeopleHealthyPlanet - not one or the other. #ClimateChange is a threat to human and planetary health, and so is #MetabolicUnhealth, which 88% of Americans are currently facing. Substituting fat-filled foods with sugar containing ones for “sustainable diet” reasons (see last photo) moves carbon emissions from food to pharmaceuticals.
The emphasis here was on fossil fuels, rather than food, which is supported by the data.
Check out howarthlab.org for a good accounting of methane emissions, a significant health threat: 376 Tg/year in 2015 of anthropogenic emissions are composed of 74 Tg/year from animal agriculture, the majority (81%) come from Natural gas (157 Tg & significantly increasing from shale production), Coal (33 Tg), Rice (44 Tg), Landfills/Sewage (41 Tg), Biomass burning (27 Tg) - not that anyone’s keeping track or anything .
