Awoke to a robust 35 degrees here along the Florida panhandle this morning and decided to venture over to the seashore to watch the sunrise. While walking around I found this nice little scene that belied the somewhat cold temperatures of the morning.

Little did I know how right my DI was when, way back in basic training, he kept yelling at me to get up, sleep is over rated.

I was lucky enough to catch this early morning rainbow on the edge of a passing storm. Long exposure photography is really fun to play with.

A photographer friend of mine messaged me yesterday and said it looked like it was going to be foggy this morning and asked if I wanted to join him for a morning shoot? Of course I said yes. Well the fog didn't quite cooperate but I did manage to capture a misty sunrise along the Sound. It just goes to show that you should never go out with a preconceived notion of what you're going to shoot.

Since we finally have a morning with really low humidity and temps, I thought it the perfect time to "phone a friend" and head to the beach for sunrise. This is Navarre Beach, FL.

I went out yesterday afternoon to scout a few locations for future use. I wasn't really planning on shooting anything but I came upon this little slough and I thought I'd see what kind of dynamic range my R6 had. So, when taking this photo, I exposed for the clouds and the sky. I'm really happy with how much detail I was able to recover in the shadows. I also really like the side light and faint visibility of the sun rays coming through the trees.

I met up with a friend of mine last night to head across the street for sunset and while the sunset didn't disappoint, what I enjoyed most was the soft light, the warmth and just the overall magic that only golden hour can produce.

It's been a bit on the cloudy side lately so I went into the back yard for some brightness and came away with this.

I love how the glow of the morning sun shed it's warmth upon this "Pathway To Paradise" where.....as William Butler Yeats said...

"And I will find some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings."

The last November sunset along the Florida panhandle.

I waited and waited as my anticipation grew, and then....as if by magic...my patience was granted its' just reward

So I was talking to someone the other day about photographing sunrise and her comment was "Eh sunrise is for the birds", I wasn't sure what she meant at the time but....was it this???

Navarre is said to be "Florida's Most Relaxing Place" and this is one of the best places I know of to just sit, relax and daydream, read a book, or just enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Sunset looked like it may be pretty good last night so I ran across the street to our little park here in Navarre to see what I could capture. I liked this one, I like the color in the park and the light from the lamp post shining on the trees and just the overall contrast of the scene.

Yesterday was such an incredibly nice day here on the Florida panhandle. Temps in the mid 60's, no wind and a beautiful sky. It was a perfect opportunity to photograph one of my favorite scenes. This is the real Florida, not the concrete jungle you see farther south.

One thing I really love about living along this part of the Gulf coast are all of the trees and nature that surrounds us. I really love how the trees at times take on a personality of their own as they're shaped by the winds and weather we have.

Waiting patiently for the sunrise...

Since it's been awhile since I've been across the street to the beach, I thought I'd take a run over this morning to try and catch the morning glow of sunrise on the pier and surrounding buildings. I also really like the way the sun hits and bounces off of all of the footprints.

Morning twilight oftentimes provides a beautiful backdrop, that, when aided by the silhouette of the fishing pier and surrounding condo's, signal the start of another day in the paradise known as Navarre Beach, FL.

Some days are just made for spending time at the beach!

Yesterday, I went over to the beach with a friend of mine to take in the sunset. While I was walking about the dunes, I became captivated by this little scene. I love how the warm light of the setting sun interacted with the curvature of the sand and created a wonderful mixture of shadows and light leading out to the Gulf.

I really love the soft winter sunrises over the Gulf that we enjoy here along the Florida panhandle.

Early morning life along the Florida panhandle.

Fellow photographer friend Kevin Lehmann and I headed across the street to the beach last night in hopes of shooting a sunset. Although the sunset itself was slightly less than spectacular, I really like how just before the sun dipped below the horizon, it painted the clouds above, along with the dunes along the beach, with a spectacular golden glow.

One of the best ways to spend a New Years Day morning is enjoying a "First Day Hike". I did just that this morning with friends from the Western Gate Chapter of the Florida Trail Association as we hiked around Bear Lake on the Florida Panhandle. Can't wait until the water looks like this again. Sun needs to get a little higher it's coming back soon :)

It was a balmy but chilly 32 degrees this morning along the Florida panhandle. After having a second cup of coffee, I looked outside and saw some nice puffy clouds, so, I did what anyone would do, I grabbed my camera and headed down the road to see what I could find. I love the remote areas around where we live.

I got up at my usual 0430 this morning, turned on the coffee pot and looked outside to see what appeared at first glance, to be a clear sky. As I was drinking my coffee I thought, hey, I know a perfect seat to catch a nice sunrise. So, I grabbed my camera and headed across the street, but alas...someone beat me to it. However, I still think I had a fantastic view and sharing it with an unknown stranger somehow seamed to make it even better.

I went out this morning looking for a nice sunrise and while the colors were pretty nice early, I was really drawn to the warm glow of the morning sun along the distant dock and the nearby beach. Sunrises aren't always about the pastel colors.
