this was a ship, now the bow is a summer vacation home.

Built in 1924 for use by the Ford Motor Company, the Benson Ford (I) was original utilized to transport iron ore and related materials across the Great Lakes by the growing auto company. Measuring 612’ X 62’ with a moulded depth of 32’ and a carrying capacity of 15,000 net tons at mid-summer draft, the ship was built by Great Lakes Engineering, Ecorse, Mich., and was launched April 26, 1924. From shiponthebay.com/history.html

High upon a promontory on South Bass Island in Lake Erie at Put-in-Bay, Ohio, sits the Owners and Captains Quarters of the former Great Lakes Shipping Boat, The Benson Ford. The boat was built by Henry Ford and named after his grandson many years ago. After fifty years of service on the Great Lakes, the Benson Ford was scheduled in 1986 to be scrapped at the Port of Cleveland, Ohio. On the top front section of the boat were the walnut paneled state rooms, dining room, galley, and passenger lounge designed by Henry Ford for his own pleasure while traversing the Great Lakes on business. This is when an Ohio husband and wife stepped in realizing that these elegant quarters would be a magnificent residence, if they could only be removed from the rest of the ship and brought to land. After many days with torches and cranes, the Quarters were removed from the ship and floated by barge some sixty miles west to the tranquil island of South Bass Island. Additional cranes were needed to lift the Quarters off the barge at the Island up a steep eighteen foot promontory to its final site on solid bedrock on a single family home lot. The Quarters became The Ship Residence, a private home on South Bass Island. (from Dutton Auction and Realty Co.)

Mine and Kate's first stop on our 6 week adventure was here in Dubai, before heading for Doha (to stay with expat friends in a luxury house with swimming pool provided by Maersk Oil) then we went on to Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne.

This is the only 7 star hotel in the world Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Repeatedly voted the world's most luxurious hotel, offering the finest service and facilities throughout – right down to an optional chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce.

We didn't stay there we stayed at a shoddy 5* it wasn't shoddy but against this.....

Facts:

The shape of the hotel is designed to mimic the sail of a ship. It has a helipad near the roof at a height of 210 meters above ground.

The hotel is located on an island of reclaimed land 280 meters offshore of the beach of the former Chicago Beach Hotel

A good part of the hotel is below sea level and the dining experience is absolute luxury as well as insanely beautiful food choices diners are completely surrounded by a huge aquarium.

Holds 28 double-story floors which accommodate 202 bedroom suites. The smallest suite occupies an area of 1,820 sq ft, the largest covers 8,400 sq ft.

There are 29,000 Swarovski crystals in the ceiling of Junsui Lounge, designed in the shape of the Milky Way.

Every female member of the front office wear bespoke, gold earrings and necklace pendants, in the shape of Burj Al Arab logo.

You need to walk up 1080 steps to reach the 27th floor of Burj Al Arab. Good job they have plush lifts.

Designed with a novel nautical theme, the Surf Room resembles the lounge of a modern Luxury liner. Entertainment by a leading pianist.

Mailed from Washington, D.C. to Thelma Cross of Covington, Ohio on September 27, 1960:

Do I smell male – yes, it’s definitely male! An achromatic lounge designed for him in black, gray, and off -white hues giving one a feeling of defined space. Non - traditional ethnic furniture pieces with a boast of woven leather complements the mixed use of bricks, glass and leather – sets it apart. The homogenous Italian white tiled floor combined with an area of narra planks averts the viewer’s attention to the walls done in leather. A floor length mirror on the opposite side of the leather wall dutifully reflects the image. A freedom wall in a 4-sectioned glass acts as a white board for doodles and endless ideas. The track light illuminates photographs and knickknacks on the glass shelving defining the step-up platform leading to the door. The butaka lounge chair designed might as well be the crux of the design. Done in leather with a wooden frame, the lounge chair can be flipped over one side in black and the other in white usable depending on ones mood. A space - where ideas begin and flourish-no doubt!

I-5 Design and Manufacture created a custom design for the Envy Nightlife, which is part of the Route 66 Casino, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. To generate a thrilling and electrifying atmosphere, we designed every interior décor element to incorporate fully programmable LED lighting that changes colors and streams almost limitless automated patterns and videos. This is one of the conceptual designs for the Sundance Bar & Lounge, by I-5 Design and Manufacture. For the interior, we provided a warm color palette and natural finishes to enhance the key areas of the venue. A metallic orange valance cantilevered over the counter offers an eye-catching element, which allows for customers to easily identify the bar. Behind the bar, architectural stone veneer columns in golden hues were designed with a vertical orientation to visually elevate the ceiling and mimic the pattern of the custom pendant lights. I-5 Design and Manufacture designed this electrifying club for the Route 66 Casino located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For this casino venue, we wanted to create a dramatic feel using a large assortment of various LED lighting elements. To achieve this, we implemented custom gobo lights to be suspended from various sections of the ceiling and the center structure that displays the company logo and other programmed effects, adding interest and an element of surprise. 9. London Street (best viewed from Bedford Street).

With plenty of folklore influences, this mural is designed by Norwich University of the Arts graduate Ella goodwin.

Of her design she said: “Norfolk Folklore has it that cats w ere buried in walls to ward away spirits a long time ago (1700s), my design is inspired by this but takes on much more uplifting and whimsical viewpoint that they may also be the hourse themselves amongst a scaled up landscape of vibrant florals. The illustration would have a cutaway design to reveal the “inside” of the cat houses and so feel like the building itself was being revealed. I chose the Ticket Boo site for this becuse of the nature of the local shops such an Inanna’s festival, The Book Hive and Tickety Boo. All of which are independent shops filled with stories. This felt an appropriate spot for aa somewhat fantastical forkloric design”.

It’s acutally situated on London Street but is best viewed by far from Bedford Street!

The latest upgrade that I-5 Design and Manufacture created for the Route 66 Casino is the Envy Nightlife nightclub. We designed this nightclub to be equipped with a wide array of LED lighting elements including the large oval shaped structure suspended from the ceiling and equipped with fully programmable LED lighting, capable of radiating the company logo and other amazing patterns. Night club lounge dark and sexy

Designed to add another thrilling venue to the Route 66 Casino, I-5 Design and Manufacture designed, manufactured and installed an entire interior and exterior upgrade for the ENVY Nightlife nightclub. Equipped with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system, the oval shaped structure suspended from the center of the ceiling adds a dynamic flare and is a unique centerpiece for the club. Other lighting elements are installed that fade from top to bottom and from side to side in almost limitless color combinations. To view more casino design, click here.

I-5 Design and Manufacture created this conceptual 3D rendering for the Sundance Bar & Lounge. One of the goals for this design was to create an intimate atmosphere that was separate from the gaming floor, with the use of warm color tones and natural materials. On all of the perimeter walls, we created custom divider panels, which are of the same color and material as the suspended pendant lights and incorporate a similar vertical orientation as in the architectural stone columns. Click here to see more examples of bar & lounge design

I-5 Design and Manufacture created an interior and exterior décor remodel for the ENVY Nightlife at the Route 66 Casino, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Suspended from the center of the ceiling, above the dance floor is a gigantic oval structure equipped with LED lighting tubes that display a variety of colors and patterns, and are programmed to change to the beat of the music. Other lighting elements, such as custom gobo lights are mounted from various sections of the ceiling and the center structure that display the company logo and other programmed effects. To view more casino design, click here.

I-5 Design and Manufacture created a bar and lounge design for the interior of this bowling center. We wanted to create a modern themed environment that still maintained a welcoming feel, with the use of an amber hued color palette and sleek finishes. Clusters of amber pendant lights were suspended from the ceiling, drawing the eye downward to the seating area below. Above the booths we designed a dimensional maze pattern and mica diffuser to be applied to the light fixtures, adding visual interest and tying into the overall color palette. To view more design examples, click here.

I-5 took a masculine approach to the William Hill Sportsbook design. With electric blue and fiery orange hues combined with sleek chrome accents this edgy sports bar design carries out the brand name of the sports book / race book venues. To see more bar and lounge designs, click here.

As part of the total property remodel for Casino Pauma, I-5 Design was asked to create a lounge design that would bring a new personality to the gaming floor. The Casino was looking to create an intimate area within the gaming floor where patrons can step away from the action to relax.
