Anhinga

This is what I patched together from different sources - hope it is correct:

This is the American Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga). There are the closely related African Anhinga (Anhinga rufa), and Oriental (Anhinga melanogaster) darters. The Australasian darter (Anhinga novaehollandiae) has been classed as a subspecies of the African or African plus Oriental darters. All four have also been classed as a single species.

From Laura's Birding Blog - Laura Erickson's for the Birds -

As befits a species that feeds on rather large fish, the mouth has to be able to open wide.

I've gotten through several more of the 100 backlogged folders of photos - this from 2021.

Peace. Beautiful week to you.

Glossy ibis feeding chicks at Ocean City Rookery, a loud and rather violent affair. The light on the birds is not perfect, but the nature story is rather compelling, I think.

Today's pictures are all from Hort Park. Hort Park is a one-stop gardening resource hub that brings together gardening-related, recreational, educational, research and retail activities under one big canopy in a park setting. It also serves as a knowledge centre on plants and gardening, providing planting ideas and solutions, and offering a platform for the horticulture industry to share best practices and showcase garden designs, products and services.

The eyes are the mirror of the soul.#

A few week's back the theme for the Crazy Tuesday group was "What Is It?" I was going to make a very small macro image using this speaker but it didn't do it for me. I kept looking at the speaker and the lighting, which was just ambient light making it's way into our living room. I started to think about squared circles and figured a speaker has to be a no-brainer for that format and that it would look pretty cool. I also wanted to shoot it as a focus stack to really get the detail of the full speaker. This shot is the result, a 15 layer stack that IMO is one of the best I've been able to produce. It then became the main subject of my amusement for other images as is often the case!

Thinking out Loud - Ed Sheeran

youtu.be/lp-EO5I60KA

When your legs don't work like they used to before

And I can't sweep you off of your feet

Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love

Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks

And darling I will be loving you 'til we're 70

And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23

And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways

Maybe just the touch of a hand

Oh me I fall in love with you every single day

And I just wanna tell you I am

So honey now

Take me into your loving arms

Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars

Place your head on my beating heart

I'm thinking out loud

Maybe we found love right where we are

I'm back in the archives and came across this grackle that shows up from time to time. I didn't realize they were so colorful until I uploaded this. They're loud and messy at times but the color makes up for it.

Once again, I hate this time of year in Oklahoma. At 5pm yesterday it was 106 with a heat index of 113 and today the same although I've not ventured out all day. Please hurry Fall!

The local Rainbow Lorikeets were loudly warning me off when I went close to the back fence near the neighbours flowering gum. As you can see lots of plain grey skies recently.

Sometimes things get a wee bit loud around here and Gerrie is not happy about that.

♫ Men At Work - Down Under ♫

Do you come from a land down under

Where women glow and men plunder

Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder

You better run, you better take cover.
