583 are the victims of the plane crash of Los Rodeos in 1977. In his memory is this monument in the form of a spiral staircase with some steps that connect earth and sky.
The monument is located in the Mesa Mota park on the outskirts of S.Cristobal de La Laguna, Tenerife. Coincidentally, the day I was in the park, this cloud through a gap allowed the sun to light with its rays the runway where the fatal outcome occurred as well as a kind of projection into the sky.
This was the view from the Puerto de la Cruz - Santa Cruz de Tenerife bus as it stopped at Los Rodeos Airport near La Laguna. I took it not because it was a nice view, but because Los Rodeos aka Tenerife Norte is synonymous with tragedy, being the scene of the worst air accident in history, where two 747s crashed on the runway in 1977 with the loss of 583 lives.
