Looking back over the winter we haven't seen as many of these beautiful Snowy Owls as in previous winters. Yesterday we did spot a couple of them far out on the Lake Ontario ice. This photo was taken from our vehicle at a safe distance respecting the owl's space and the private property it was sitting on.

it was a very misty day, and when we climed up to the top of this hill, the clouds suddenly opened and we saw this magical scene, it only took minutes, after the mist closed the view again.

I saw this Eurasian whimbrel (numenius phaeopus) take a couple of ghost crabs off the sand. The bird moved very slowly along the beach, occasionally being rewarded for its patience and stealth. Photographed near Belle Mare, in Mauritius.
