Put another log on the fire… A nice way of stacking, isn’t it?

From the Andy Nystrom collection.

Third from left is Luella Kloster Nystrom.

This photo was taken most likely somehwere along today's 2120 line as that was the area that Camp 9 logged when Luella worked in the camp cookhouse (see previous pictures).

This may be a family picture as several men in this picture occur in multiple pictures from this collection.

Note the railroad grade underneath the log. The split cables at the top suggest that they are suspended from a hayboom loading rig. It was a rectangular log construction allowing logs to be loaded easily onto rail cars. Each of the top pulleys would be attached to one side of the rig, allowing the operator of the donkey engine to load the logs in a level, safe manner (with practice).

Most of the flooring is now complete in the loft area so we can walk around more easily without balancing on the logs part of the floor is left open so you can see the loft area from the dining area

More than the other motels on Van Buren, I fell for the Log Cabin Motel and its sad little time-warp property. The conidition is not that great, but many of the overall details are still there including the many freestanding log cabins themselves. The pool has been filled in and the water wheel is vacant, but the place is still in decent and restorable shape.

Found a cut tree trunk today.

It's interesting that the PANO-sabotage effect is very prominent in the leaves, but not so much in the trunks.

Awesome story here: The row of pines stood only about 4 feet tall when the property owner (Bob?) and his wife were married. Their wedding ceremony took place next to these pines, with guests sitting on benches. They are both well past 85 and still happily married, despite the various health issues.

Then we come to the log barn. Bob had planted those trees eons ago on his parent's property. Many years later Bob and his son harvested the trees and built the wonderful little log barn, where they kept three horses.

HDR tryout, tried not to over process

This is what's happening now in the Stanislaus Forest. Trees superficially burned by last year's Rim Fire are being clear-cut while the very unique and special habitat created by a burn is being ripped apart by heavy equipment and drag lines.

Chaparral Institute have filed an injunction against the courts decision to log the Rim Fire Burn area.

Although I've been involved in the effort to stop the logging I hadn't yet seen the damage myself and it was heartbreaking.

This photo was taken on Evergreen Road which leads to Camp Mather and Hetch Hetchy. Although the land here may be privately owned, from Highway 120 the same sight was common throughout the burn area in the national forest ..

Amazing! Somebody resides in a log cabin in downtown Santa Barbara! I never thought I'd see such a thing right in the middle of downtown!
