Managed woodland log pile. Great textures and tones in the cut ends...would have stayed and photographed them to death but husband wanted to get moving....It actually must be very frustrating going for a walk with a photography nut who stops every 10 paces or so to ' just take one shot'!!

I finally got these finished, blocked, and photographed and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out! They were lots of fun and a fairly quick knit. I made them as a Christmas gift for my mom. blogged

Arthur Cleveland Bent writes, " Wilson (1832) discovered this handsome warbler and named it for the State in which he found it most abundant. The name is not inappropriate, for Kentucky is not far from the center of it abundance in the breeding season." About it's habitat he writes, " The Kentucky warbler is a woodland bird, a lover of deep shade and dense, damp thickets." and "Draw a line three feet from the ground, and you mark the usual limit of the Kentucky warbler's quest for food." Regarding it's song he quotes Dr. Chapman (1912), "His song is entirely unlike that of any other Warbler. It is a loud, clearly whistled performance of five, six, or seven notes--tur-dle, tur-dle, tur-dle--resembling in tone some of the calls of the Carolina Wren. Even in the woods it may be heard at a distance of about one hundred and fifty yards. In the height of the breeding season this Warbler is a most persistent singer." So I found a beautiful rotting termite ridden log in the alley and had to bring it inside. After letting it season for a couple weeks I sealed it and suspended it from the ceiling over the platform bed to fill in some negative space and add a bit of detritus to our life.
Opposite the Columbia Theater in Longview, Washington is this very different monotone mural with the wood grain of a log round superimposed on the pioneer logging scene.

I 1975 arrivano finalmente in Italia per due date evento! Il 12 aprile 2016 si esibiranno davanti al pubblico milanese del Fabrique di Milano.
A distanza di tre anni dal loro ultimo concerto italiano e con migliaia di follower in più, i quattro di Manchester promettono uno show pieno di emozioni e carica rock.
I The 1975 (stilizzato come THE1975) sono un gruppo musicale indie rock britannico formatosi nel 2002 a Manchester. È composto da Matthew "Matty" Healy, Adam Hann, George Daniel e Ross MacDonald.
Nonostante la loro giovane età, (classe 1989), da subito si distinguono per i testi cupi e i temi profondi, il tutto viene poi visivamente consolidato da un rigoroso uso del black&white per video, foto e copertine di EP ed album.
Il loro stile musicale può essere definito come un crossover originale di electro, R&B e pop ’80. Non a caso il loro produttore è Mike Crossey (Foals, Arctic Monkeys).
Il 1° giugno 2015 segna un momento di svolta per il quartetto: viene infatti postata sui profili social un’immagine a colori (bianco e rosa) del tipico logo della band. La data non è stata scelta a caso, il 1° giugno è infatti il giorno della nascita della band. Il restyling significa quindi una rinascita simbolica per una band che può e vuole suonare per quante più persone possibili e continuare a fare musica.

I went back up the road some distance from the Tunnel Log with a zoom lens to try and give a sense of the scale of it and its surroundings. I didn't quite succeed with what I wanted from this shot - tomorrow's image will give a better sense of the proportions of the surrounding trees.
The fallen Tunnel Log of Sequoia National Park came into being after an unnamed giant sequoia fell across the Crescent Meadow Road in late 1937 as a result of natural causes. The following summer, a tunnel was cut through the fallen tree as a visitor attraction.
When it fell, the giant sequoia had stood 83.8m tall and had a diameter at its base of 6.4m. The tree's age when it fell has not been determined, but probably exceeded 2,000 years. The tunnel, which remains in use today, is 5.2m wide and 2.4m high, ample for the car in the picture above. There is a bypass for taller vehicles. The tunnel is almost exactly 2,000m above sea level.
Sequoia National Park was established on 25 September 1890. The park is named for its giant sequoias, the famous ones such as the General Sherman Tree, being accessible by road. But what is probably not realised by most visitors is that 84% of Sequoia and the adjacent Kings Canyon National Parks are designated wilderness, accessible only by foot or by horseback. The backcountry includes Mount Whitney (4,421m), the highest point in the lower 48 states.
Log Cabins are fairly common in small mountain communities. Most are summer homes, but there are still a few who live there year round.

My hiking companion Uno, has to stop at this log every time we are at Thetis Lake to walk down to the water line. He stopped at the frost line this time and retreated quickly. The reflection of the blue sky and the sun lit trees inspired this photo
And that's why they call it Log Boom. These pilings extend straight out from the pier at Log Boom Park for quite a long ways, and were pretty exciting for a guy who loves pilings. I took several different comps of these guys, with this angled one being my favorite. One of my favorite photos thus far, actually. Amy saw this one and immediately said this was what she wanted hanging on her wall, which I took as a good sign because she's pretty hard to impress. :) But I'm drawn to water photos, so who knows what you all will think?
They were a little difficult to shoot because of the fact that they are quite a ways out in the middle, with no great foreground element that I could see. I actually had to switch from my 11-16mm to my 18-105mm just so that they wouldn't be too tiny. But I still love this shot, because the light and color was so great. The next time I head back, I might explore the shore some to try to get a good shot of both pier and pilings. I was wearing nice shoes, so I didn't want go hiking around in the mud this time. But I see lots of possibilities here.
I'm off to Puerto Rico now! Sorry that I have to post and run, but I'll catch up with you all next week when I get back, hopefully with a nice tan and some new shots. :)

It was a low-key new years eve, spent watching arrested development and doing a little sewing. I wanted a quick project and after seeing Amanda's beautiful log cabin pouch, I knew I needed to make one!
