Taken from Locarno Beach west of downtown Vancouver near UBC looking NW towards Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. The lighthouse located at Point Atkinson is visible just forward of the bow of the freighter. There was light overcast with a slight breeze from the East at 1 pm with the tide ebbing.

Située à côté de l’église de pèlerinage du Sanctuaire della Madonna del Sasso, cette galerie permet de profiter d'une vue fantastique sur Locarno, le lac Majeur (Lago Maggiore) et les montagnes environnantes (Préalpes de Lugano).
Ce site de pèlerinage qui domine Locarno depuis son éperon rocheux est l'un des sites religieux et historiques les plus importants dans le canton du Tessin. La tradition dit que Fra` Bartolomeo, un moine franciscain du couvent de Locarno, a voulu construire un lieu de culte sur le "Rocher" de Locarno à la suite d'une apparition de la Vierge Marie.
L’église actuelle qui date de 1596, est installée à l’emplacement de la chapelle initiale construite en 1487. Elle est ornée de fresques et de peintures à l’huile, dont un retable représentant la Fuite en Égypte peint en 1522.

Sie galt lange Zeit als die einzige Art der Gattung Nyctea und wurde daher taxonomisch entsprechend isoliert von den anderen Eulenarten betrachtet. Molekularbiologische Untersuchungen haben jedoch gezeigt, dass sie zu den Uhus (Bubo) gehört und nah mit dem Virginia-Uhu (B. virginianus) und dem Magellanuhu (B. magellanicus) verwandt ist.
Die außeren Unterschiede zu den Uhus, etwa die weiße Gefiederfarbe und die dicht befiederten Füße und Zehen, können als Anpassung an den arktischen Lebensraum erklärt werden." Die Schnee-Eule steht auf der Roten Liste gefährdeter Arten.
