On February 22, 2025, the streets of Schwäbisch Gmünd came alive with the electrifying energy of Guggenmusik! Brass and percussion echoed through the city as costumed musicians spread joy and rhythm. A spectacular fusion of tradition and celebration, leaving the crowd exhilarated and full of festive spirit!
Yet, looking back, this moment is tinged with sadness—one day later, the German federal election took place, and its outcome left me disappointed. A memory of celebration, now clouded by reflection.
Choreographed and rehearsed over and over; so that it looks and sounds exciting but no one gets hurt.

October 2010 Murray, Utah. One of three live multi-band All-Ages events I shot. This is a member of the Rock-Ska band Storming Stages and Stereos. Got the opportunity to shoot from stage a few times. Resulted in some fantastic shots. This is one of my faves. The editing was fun. Enjoy the finished product. Edited originally with Photoscape and later with Adobe LR and PhotoscapeX.
About 1/2 hour before the stages started to get crowded. Even the clothes this gentleman wore helped to accentuate his mustache. I love the expression on her face while he acknowledges my presence, on the dance floor, camera in hand.
Unlike the Festival Stage, the Fountain Stage is outdoors and quite a bit smaller... Hard to control the hardness, of the light,
when clouds are sparse and the sun is above you. I also find myself rarely in the middle of the stage, due to the limited space and find myself more, shooting on the perimeter trying to avoid blocking the audience, rather than running into the couples.

Most of the images taken on the Fountain Stage were developed a bit differently than those under the cover at the Festival Stage. I tried to eliminate the harshness as much as possible.

Over the years I have learned to feel more comfortable, (than when I started), taking images, while moving around a dance floor. This image, I would have probably missed, had I just stayed on the outside, shooting - in, with a longer lens.

A packed T-Mobile Center in Kansas City comes together for an unforgettable evening with Forrest Frank. As beams of light fill the arena, the illuminated cross and the message “UP!” create a powerful focal point above a crowd united in music, celebration, and faith. Captured in black and white to emphasize the atmosphere, contrast, and emotion of the night.
This is the park entrance to a seasonal recreational area. We have had so much rain in Northern California this Winter, that the Russian River has over run it's banks. Beyond the Ranger Station which has river water swirling around it, you should be able to see a parking lot. It's now under water.

Zydeco from Oakland Ca, or as ""Pete Okie Weiss ," himself said, "the band from the "Other Bay."" Often at Gator, there are groups I am unfamiliar with. This group's performance and Tarah's vocals, is what I will remember most from that day.

The second band of the day, the Zydeco Mudbugs, on the Festival Stage, at Gator. I am not 100% sure but think it might be Charles Watson on the Frottoir. I am not sure who is on guitar.

Sometimes everything comes together in a fraction of a second.
The movement of the Cyr Wheel artist, the choir singing behind her, the cameraman capturing the performance from another angle, and thousands of people sharing the same moment.
I wasn't looking for a perfect portrait.
I was looking for the energy of the event.
This single frame reminds me why I enjoy photographing live performances: every second is unique, and once it's gone, it can never be recreated.

Josef Wilhelm „Papa Joe“ Buschmann (* 6. April 1925 in Wattenscheid; † 13. Oktober 2015) war ein deutscher Jazzmusiker und Gastronom. Er betrieb mehrere Musiklokale in Köln. Buschmann, der in Köln aufwuchs, gründete mit 15 Jahren ein Salonorchester, das er bis zum Abitur nebenbei betrieb. Nach Kriegsende studierte er in Münster und trat nebenbei fast täglich als Pianist in britischen Offizierscasinos auf. Die Idee, Musik mit Gastronomie zu verbinden, konnte er erst nach Eröffnung eines kleinen Hotels 1956 in Köln verwirklichen, in dessen Bierbar Buschmann selbst als Barpianist fungierte. Buschmann gründete 1964 am Rudolfplatz im Keller der Hahnentorburg das „Orchestrion“, die erste Diskothek in Köln. In den Pausen der Disk-Jockeys, unter anderem Frank Elstner, Ray Miller oder Jack White, versuchte er die Gäste mit einem dort befindlichen Orchestrion aus dem Jahr 1903 zu unterhalten.[1]
In der wiederbelebten Kölner Altstadt gründete Buschmann 1974 Papa Joe’s Jazzlokal und wenig später Papa Joe’s Biersalon Klimperkasten. In Papa Joe’s Jazzlokal tritt seit 1974 täglich wechselnd eine Jazzband auf – in der Regel im Swing- oder im Dixieland-Stil; inzwischen ist auch Soul, Funk- und Latin Jazz dabei. Im Klimperkasten, wo von Buschmann gesammelte historische mechanische Musikinstrumente zu hören sind, trat der Hausherr selbst ab und an als Pianist auf. In seinen letzten Jahren begleitete Buschmann weiterhin das Gesangstrio Die Schmonzetten, für das er außerdem arrangierte. Ferner arrangierte er einen kabarettistischen Otto-Reutter-Abend, der wiederholt in Köln und im Umland aufgeführt wurde.
