dear wolfie,

this is the only photograph I took and I am putting it here for you. Not that Scandinavia isn't worth photographing - quite the opposite. But with 1,620,000 image results on google for the word fjord alone I really felt that my two cents worth would be somewhat silly you know...

Anyway, thought you might get a chuckle out of this one: The little mermaid has gone to Shanghai, so they have put up a screen (feeding live data from her current location) into the place where she is actually supposed to be.

Her mind swims at a depth most would drown in."

Buried deep in the dark and foreboding corners of "the Pit" is the Little Mermaid Theater. Unfortunately it was closed when we were there so I never got to see the show but hopefully that will be remedied next week.

One of the places I stopped at was Walgreens, and there I found these cute princess figures on clearance for $3 each. They've been there for like a year or something but were always $6, and I'm cheap and not paying full price. But for $3 I totally picked them up.

I like them! It's nice how they're not tiny, most princess figures are like 2-3'' but these are 6'' or so. And their faces are actually printed pretty nicely! They had Tink too but as much as I love the character, her figure was kinda creepy. The back of the box says they make Belle too but I didn't see her, maybe if I come across her at another one I'll buy her.

I really want more princesses like this but I'm not holding my breath on any more showing up, the box says Series 1 but considering they've had these for so long and I've never seen any others... I doubt they ever actually made a Series 2. But I'm still happy with my find and these two will probably hang out on my shelves with my princess dolls. They're cute!

Depending on the angle of viewing, the Little Mermaid has quite different expressions. This angle captures her "mais tranquilo".

The challenge is to take a brand new version of one of the first pictures you ever posted to flickr to see how far your doll photography has come since then!

I thought you might like to see what the location is like in Copenhagen, where the Little Mermaid sits on her rock off Langelinie. I took my photos just after 9am and already it is starting to get busy. We had a little walk around the area and as we returned to the scene coaches were starting to park!

This mermaid statue is one of the top tourist attractions in Copenhagen, and has become an icon and a symbol of both Copenhagen and Denmark. While the story by Hans Christian Andersen was more than enough to make this mermaid statue known around the world, the Disney movies have only added to the fame and the appeal of this statue.

There are copies of the statue - with some differences - in a number of locations around the world, which in some cases are authorized by Eriksen’s heirs, and in other cases have been allowed to remain without specific authorization from the heirs.

The mermaid statue on display in Copenhagen is the actual original, but other copies and sizes were made as well - which is a good thing, as the original has been vandalized several times, and then lovingly restored using the copies. Several sizes are available for purchase at the official website for this most famous of all mermaid statues.

While the statue is often seen as being smaller than expected, it is actually larger than it appears, about 25% larger than lifesize. The spectacular location and the grand features of ocean, harbor and shoreline around the statue contribute to make it look small in comparison. The original statue here is the only true copy of the statue in this size - according to sculptor Edvard Eriksen's will, only smaller copies may be produced, with Copenhagen Harbor having the only full-size statue.
