Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. "Helen Keller"

Macro Monday project – 08/27/12

"Lit By Candlelight”

1:1 Macro of a mini Santa "won" at the local Christmas market, illuminated with a single tealight candle.

The 12/18/17 theme for #MacroMondays is #LitByCandleLight, and for this image, I used one small votive candle, placed so close, I almost set this thing on fire. This is the neck of a dwarf pomegranate that has been drying out on my desk for months (see the whole pomegranate in the first comment).

Another experiment with light through a cut glass wineglass. Taken in a darkened room with only a candle for light

Macro Mondays, Theme - Lit by Candlelight.

I don't have any candles so I had to improvise. This is a figurine that came with a video game. The main light is the flame. The background is a piece of aluminum foil spray painted black and lit by the light on my cell phone, I added a CTO gel to match the fire. I was trying to make it look like she was in a cave.

Just one candle and a reflector was used to light this picture.

A glass disk lit from behind by a votive candle. Macro Mondays theme this week is "Lit by Candlelight" HMM

Bought myself a wooden Angel statue, she's so versatile, I've photographed her a lot since buying her!

My daughter made this gingerbread Father Christmas. I must admit it has more than a passing resemblance to a ninja, but ho hum! The little fella seemed like a perfect subject for this weeks lit by candlelight Macro Mondays theme. He certainly creates a warm Christmas feeling. He's been lit using three candles in a row to the left with a mirror used to provide some fill light on the right. The image was taken with a Fuji XT2 fitted with a Samyang 100mm f2.8 macro lens.

Taken for this week's Macro Mondays prompt - photos by candlelight!

This is my tiniest and most favorite ornament. Every year I wait until after December 6th to put up our Christmas tree because my oldest daughter was born on December 6th and I never wanted her birthday to feel shared with Christmas. Now that she's an adult, I could put up my tree earlier if I wanted but this year I waited until December 13th simply because I was busy. The very last set of ornaments that I put on the tree are the miniatures. This entire angel is about 1.5" high and I always called my oldest daughter "my little angel on earth," so this angel ballerina ornament always makes me think of her. 1991 was the year she made me a mom and made Christmas that much more special... seeing life through the eyes of a child.

I wish I had gotten a pull back shot of my setup, it was so elaborate! Last night, I used my dark dining room table as my staging area, used a platter that was tall from which to hang my angel ornament (with a vase on top anchoring her), used two large 3x3 Circle E. Candles to light her from the front, used a tripod to ensure a steady shot, then put a variety of sparkly bits behind my angel to get some pretty bokeh. I'm very pleased with this shot.

Macro Mondays [August 27: Lit by Candlelight]

Revisiting an object I've captured before, but didn't enter into any group theme. This time, in color and with a "real" tea light candle.

Done for Macro Mondays, Lit by Candlelight. HMM!

Panasonic G1, Lumix G Vario 14-45. A very mild posterization was applied, along with some texture.

Next week I'm going to be grandfather ! Here are the first baby booties.

The lighting was realized with 3 flat heat candles. Exposure time 2.5s, Iso 400, F/105mm, f/13

This lithographed tin horse from the early 19th century was my model for this week's challenge. I was surprised at just how long my exposures had to be, even using two candles for this shot!

Shot using my Sony 18-55mm with 20mm extension tube attached.

For the group "Macro Mondays," and this week's theme: "Lit by Candlelight."

The theme for Macro Mondays is Lit By Candle light, and for this 30-second exposure, I used two votive candles, one on each side, and a 105mm Micro Nikkor lens plus a stack of three extension tubes. I don't know what this thing is, but it grows on a tree in our back yard, and after it had been sitting on my desk for several days, it opened up and suddenly became interesting as a potential photo object. This section measures half an inch across, and you can see the whole thing in the first comment below.

Time's going to be running out on flip flop season soon, at least in my neck of the woods.

These charms were on a bottle of perfume. I'm not sure what I saved them for but finally found a use for them!

Happy Macro Monday :-)
