The lake shore very gradually liquefying this year as temperatures continue to hover right at the freezing point, creating interesting abstractions at the edges of the thawing ice. I saw a flock of ducks fly past yesterday and heard the familiar honking of returning geese today, but they found no open water to encourage a stop. But spring approaches and soon the sound of the loons will once again echo across the lake.

Hi There!

It has been quite dreary the past few days so I figured a bright Crocosmia bloom would perk me up (and maybe you as well)! I used Photoshop Elements 15 for basic adjustments and then Topaz Studio for effects. Afterwards, I liquefied a few little bits here and there just to extend colour and form. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

Thanks for looking and for your comments. I do love hearing from you! Have an enjoyable day!

Hello All!

These are Prairie Coneflowers, delightful wildflowers that bees and butterflies adore. To create this image, I liquefied, bloated and twisted things about to get a sense of motion. Processing and effects all done in Adobe Photoshop Elements 15.

Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

I do appreciate your views and comments including constructive criticism. THANK you for stopping by! Have a lovely day!

The Peenemünde Army Research Center (Heeresversuchsanstalt Peenemünde, now part of the Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum), built starting in 1936, was primarily used to develop and test the first functioning large rocket, Aggregat 4 (A4, which became known as the "Vergeltungswaffe (retaliatory weapon) V2 ". The picture shows a small part of the facade of the coal-fired power plant (which continued to operate in the GDR). In the operation of the Army Research Center, a considerable part of the power plant output was used for the production of liquefied oxygen in a large-scale plant built especially for this purpose. (The A4/V2 rocket was propelled by a mixture of oxygen and diluted alcohol.)

A member of the Reduviidae family. The mouthparts are tucked into a groove between the front legs, and are used to inject the victim with a paralyzing toxin and feed on the liquefying material.

Let this be a tribute to the loved ones that have passed away. Let them know that life here is still beautiful and we will enjoy the moments that they gifted us.

Thank you to all the wonderful people who gave me space to make this happen. Let us dream, create, and strive together to accomplish great works.

The snow Virga, descending, on the whole shot, from the cloud above, in random order, tormented, curled, weakened, up to about 500m of altitude, sublimates for the whole path and totally at that altitude.

The central one, on the contrary, more dense and lower, manages to sublimate only partly, while the other part liquefies in rain (which has a completely different density, clearly highlighting the passage in which the water lets the sunlight pass almost completely), however weakened by the continuation of factors (attenuated by Sea humidity!) that led to sublimation in the form, now, of evaporation, but the space between the entrainment of the large virga (which appears as an elongation of the cloud, but is not) and the sea surface is too short, thanks also to the absence of winds and, in fact, to a greater humidity in the air.

The Reduviidae are a large cosmopolitan family of the order Hemiptera (true bugs). They are unusual among the Hemiptera because almost all are terrestrial ambush predators (most other predatory Hemiptera are aquatic). The main examples of nonpredatory Reduviidae are some blood-sucking ectoparasites in the subfamily Triatominae. Though spectacular exceptions are known, most members of the family are fairly easily recognizable; they have a relatively narrow neck, sturdy build, and formidable curved proboscis (sometimes called a rostrum). Large specimens should be handled with caution, if at all, because they sometimes defend themselves with a very painful stab from the proboscis. Predatory Reduviidae use the long rostrum to inject a lethal saliva that liquefies the insides of the prey, which are then sucked out. The saliva contains enzymes that digest the tissues they swallow. This process is generally referred to as extraoral digestion. The saliva is commonly effective at killing prey substantially larger than the bug itself. 2201

Shaggy manes (Coprinus comatus) have a rounded, slender dry white cap covered with flat to somewhat elevated reddish brown scales. Upon emerging from the soil, the white cap quickly turns a moist inky black from liquefying gills. At this stage the mushroom is not edible, although not poisonous.

Peach Cake (Non-dairy)

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 lb. (1/2 cup = 1 stick) margarine, at room temperature

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs, at room temperature

2/3 cup almond milk or soya milk

2 firm but ripe peaches (about 10 oz,) sliced about 1/16 inch thick

2 tsp. sugar

1/4 cup apricot jelly

2 tsp. brandy

¼ tsp. vanilla extract

Oven: 350°F.

Grease and flour a 10x2-inch fluted quiche pan or a 9x2-inch round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, beat the margarine with an electric mixer until smooth. Add 1 cup of the sugar and 1 tsp vanilla and the eggs.

Beat on medium speed, scraping down the sides, until the mixture is well combined, about 3 minutes.

Add half of the flour mixture and mix on low speed until just blended. Add the almond milk and mix until just blended. Add the remaining flour mixture and mix until just blended.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Arrange the peach slices, as needed and overlapping slightly, on top of the batter in a circular pattern and sprinkle with the remaining 2 tsp. sugar. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, 60 to 65 minutes.

Make the glaze: Put the apricot jelly and brandy in a small saucepan and heat on medium low until syrupy. Remove from the heat. If using vanilla extract, stir in 1/4 tsp. now. Cover.

When the cake is done, let it cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes. Remove the cake from the pan and transfer to a serving plate.

Just before serving, reheat the glaze to liquefy it and brush it over the peaches.

This green lynx spider will eat any insect,

Here is eating a grasshopper while the grasshopper is shedding,

Never seen that before,

It does not bite people Sheila:-)

Good luck today.

Note,

Most spiders don't eat their prey whole instead they expel digestive enzymes onto or into the animal to liquefy it.

Some spiders use their fangs to inject the digestive fluid directly into the animal as you can see this one is doing it.

With the hills of the Isle of Purbeck on the horizon, 60078 crawls up to the junction at Worgret with a train of liquefied petroleum gas.

The train had originated at the Furzebrook loading facility, carrying LPG from the Wytch Farm oilfield, and destined from BP’s distribution centre at Avonmouth.

It isn't often that I choose a bull gator as my sunrise subject but I happily take what's offered and this big guy came with a couple of bonuses. First bonus was bellowing with infrasound: low-frequency sound waves that turn the water's surface into a liquefied popcorn popper. Stay tuned for the second bonus tomorrow.

What you can't see in this photo of 202 passing through St. Augustine like it does every day, 7 seven days a week is the 4 dolphins strolling up the river behind the train that were being really playful just before the train rolled into the scene and sadly didn't make it into the photo.

I don't know if you see it or not, but this barn near Acadia Valley, Alberta, appears to be liquefying.

I "painted" this using the Liquefy tool in Photoshop Elements.

The 34th LEMA really starred the last four month in train photography for me, as I had six encounters with this powerful, futuristic loco. Today it turned up with a long and heavy liquefied gas train, which ran through Budaörs to Hegyeshalom in the glistening sunlight.

Abstraction Distraction..

From Our March walk in the snow. I departed from my normal post to present you with an abstraction "the quality of dealing with ideas rather than events" and in keeping with the theme of my title I used photoshop to cvreate this abstract of the Sun Halo through the trees at the park.

Is it Abstract Surrealism in the style of Van Gogh? Or Salvatore Dali. Or is it just plain photo manipulation.. it is a bit of both I suppose...I was in a weird mood this morning and started liquefying my photo and pulling it in directions and stretching it using the Smudge tool. Hope you like it. I do love to hear your thoughts so let me know in the commenters section..

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

Mount Rainier as viewed from the south. This is the first full sight of the mountain one sees when entering the national park from the Stevens Canyon entrance at the southeastern corner of the park.

Mount Rainier's peak has an elevation of 14,411 ft (4392 m).

Rainier is a member of the ultra-prominent peaks, which are significantly higher than the surrounding terrain. The official prominence of Mount Rainier is 13,210 ft (4,026 m), which is more than that of K2 in the Himalayas.

The indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest had a number of names for the mountain, including Tacoma and Tahoma, although the English expedition headed by Vancouver "discovered" the mountain in the 1790's and gave it it's current name. However, not all of the original names have vanished. The peak to the right of the main peak is known as Little Tahoma.

It is worth noting that Mount Rainier is considered an active volcano, although it hasn't erupted in the past 150 years. That said, had the eruption that occurred 5,000 years ago happened today (which resulted in what is called Osceola Mudflow), millions of people who live around Mount Rainier would have been killed by the mixture of volcanic ash and liquefied glaciers, whose path from that previous eruption covered much of what is modern day Seattle.

I don't know if it is my imagination, but it seems that the glaciers are smaller than they were. Yes, it is summer, and a warm one at that, but they still seem smaller than I remember them to be.

As previously promised, I have cleaned up the photo and this is the result.

Cotton candy, also known as candy floss (candyfloss) and fairy floss, is a spun sugar confection that resembles cotton. It is made by heating and liquefying sugar, and spinning it centrifugally through minute holes, causing it to rapidly cool and re-solidify into fine strands. It usually contains small amounts of flavouring or food colouring.

My best fungi so far this year, although there seem to have been much less this year than previously. Like most ink caps, this fungi begins to liquefy and decay shortly after fruiting. It is a native to Britain. A new growth can be seen emerging from the wood chippings towards the bottom left of the picture which was taken underneath and acer at Wakehurst Place in Sussex.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The large bald ink fungus generally occurs in groups or bundles on stumps of deciduous trees or buried wood. They can be found in meadows, on ruderal soils and in open ground

Young, large bald ink mushrooms are edible, but contain coprine that has the same effect as disulfiram. After consuming the ink fungus in combination with alcohol, all kinds of unpleasant physical symptoms will occur. Consuming alcohol should therefore be avoided for two days after eating it.

In the time when people wrote with ink and quill pen, ink was made by letting this mushroom liquefy on a plate, draining it wet and adding some gum Arabic and nail oil and shaking it.

Zosteria rosevillensis, a member of Robber Flies, Family Asilidae

Not the nicest of insects but visually interesting :)

The "Common Brown Robber Fly" is a common name for various robber flies in the genus Zosteria, but specifically refers to Zosteria rosevillensis. These are predatory insects found in Australia, easily identified by their brown body, reddish-brown legs, and strong legs for catching prey in flight. As with all robber flies, they have a triangular proboscis for injecting saliva and liquefying their prey's insides.

They prey on a wide variety of other insects, making them beneficial for controlling pest populations. /

The Magellanic Plover is no plover; in fact it is the sole member of the family Pluvianellidae. It is a small shorebird with a short and peg-like bill, dove-gray plumage, and curious behavior. It often stomps on wet mud to liquefy it, and then moves in quick circles and pecks at food that is brought to the surface from this behavior. When the young are fed, they secrete a crop milk not unlike that of doves. The odd look of this bird, the bill shape and the behavior have caused it to be classified as part of various groups through time. It was at one point thought to be a sandpiper due to the turnstone-like bill and patterns of the downy young. At other periods it was suggested to be an odd dove due to the crop milk, and soft “dove like” look. Molecular data clarifies that it is indeed a shorebird, but that it does belong in its own family and that its closest relative may be the Sheathbills (Chionidae). The Magellanic Plover breeds only in southernmost Patagonia, in both Chile and Argentina. Vulnerable. doi.org/10.2173/bow.magplo1.01
