Now, as kings and lions go¹, Leo is quite small; only a few millimetres from end to end but he's a great king and lionheart ...

... not to mention that gorgeous mane, Leo's main feature!

When there's nectar up for grabs², Leo always gets the lion's share and, with a fur coat like his, most of the pollen into the bargain!³

Let's not talk about his roar, eh?    (ツ)

Food for thought :

The bee is fast becoming an endangered species in many parts of the world. In France, the newly arrived Asian hornet (new tab) is just another nail in the coffin⁴. Without the bee, we too could well become an endangered species! :-(( - Love thy neighbour and thy bee however small and insignificant it may appear to be.

"If the Bee Disappeared Off the Face of the Earth, Man Would Only Have Four Years Left To Live" - Albert Einstein

God slay the Asian queens and save our noble bees!

(ironically, to the tune of "God Save the Queen")

Tools of the trade! (new tab) Shh!!! Mum's the word!

¹ as something (or someone) goes = pour un ... / pour une ...

² up for grabs = à saisir / à prendre / disponible

³ into the bargain = par-dessus le marché / avec / en plus

⁴ another nail in the coffin = un pas de plus vers la tombe

Poetic licence

It has occurred to me that Leo could have been a female dressed up by my title as a male. These days, of course, anything goes does it not? And besides, "Lilly the Dande Lioness Queen" doesn't have the same ring to it nor does it roll off the tongue in quite the same way as my title does. So, Leo it is!

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing

-Walt Disney

When I was child, my mom would start a Disney movie when I was sad. Back then, it was Cinderella that was my favorite.

When Cinderella was sad, there were those little mice and birds coming to help her and she would cheer up.

Later on it became The beauty and the beast because Belle would move into this castle with this big, terrible monster but her friends made sure that she knew that nothing in this world is really bad and that not everything is as bad as it seems.

And in the end, it would be The Lion King, because no matter how bad things would get at some time, it will always get better and everything will be fine...even when things change.

Sometimes unplanned shoot may resemble something that you weren't expecting. After going through several of the shots this one caught my attention as it resembled the lion king.

This is a wrinkled hornbill, also seen during my visit to the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City. This bird is probably most famous for inspiring the character Zazu in Disney's The Lion King.

While the new version of The Lion King is 100% animated, the filmmakers did use real-life locations when designing their environment. this was one of them.

Just like the Lion King moment except we're in the dead of winter with a -30C windchill howling across the snowy fields.

My sweetheart with that innocent look

but in his heart he feels a Lion King!

Beethoven brings so much joy in my life

Even in these dark days for me,

he is very precious, so precious!

He makes me laugh, he is a rascal

and knows just how to wrap me

around his little very strong paws.💕

Thank you all so much for Explore.

Beety is happy and me too!♥

As the day cooled off, the beautiful dark-maned lion that had been sleeping off a huge meal in the shade of a bush moved out onto the sandflats of Lake Ndutu and assumed a relaxed post with his paws turned in. From his luxurious dark mane and darker chest hair we can estimate his age to be at least 5 to 6 years, and likely in his prime. In the wild he could live for 10-12 years.

In 1883, Jeremy Thompson was the first European to penetrate the feared Maasai region known as Empusel (meaning 'salty, dusty place' in Maa). He, too, was astonished by the fantastic array of wildlife and the contrast between the arid areas of the dry lake bed and the oasis of the swamps, a contrast that persists today.

Amboseli was set aside as the Southern Reserve for the Maasai in 1906, but returned to local control as a game reserve in 1948. Gazetted a national park in 1974 to protect the core of this unique ecosystem, it was declared a UNESCO site in 1991.

The King of Amboseli with his Queen were captured on a Photography safari on a late evening game drive in Amboseli National Park, Kenya.

Another mural in Albuquerque.

Albuquerque has some amazing murals.

Having been looking for the Lion pride all day, I finally managed to sight them late in the evening.

The two resident Lionesses had been sleeping on a fallen acacia tree nearby. As the sun started going down they all got our onto the road and had a drink from the roadside puddle after which they all had a grooming session before dinner time.

Photographed on a late evening game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya.

He looked good when we saw him first, later we were informed, that he was sincerely wounded by a Buffalo.

The next day we went there, we saw the horn-wound in his belly as he walked a bit to get back in the shadow... unlikely that he made it.

I think in the end it deserved a life on its own.

View On Black

During my recent trip to the Maasai Mara, we sighted King Olobor of the Black Rock Pride early in the morning. He had had a very successful night as he was still busy feeding on the Wildebeest he had brought down under the cover of darkness.

King Olobor was captured before sunrise, during a photography safari on an early morning game drive in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.

This shot of the king of the jungle was captured during my recent visit to Masai Mara,Sept 2018 on the last morning drive of my safari, basking in the morning sunshine we came across the Sand River Pride. This king is part of the Sand River Pride and we captured enjoying the morning sun shine, the pride consisted of other female lioness and cubs and sub-adults all looking well feed and enjoying the morning sun shine.......

Please left click with your mouse to appreciate the photograph at full resolution.

King Romeo II of the Double Cross pride was sitting comfortably basking in the early morning sun warming himself. His sons came and greeted him followed by his Queen who pestered him a couple of times making him get up to show all who is the King.

Captured during a Photography safari on an early morning game drive in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.

The Ekunyai Pride females had brought down a wildebeest during the night and by the time we got to them at sunrise they were just finishing there much needed meal.

The cubs had all eaten and were busy playing with each other whilst the females were polishing off the left over carcass before they all went down to the stream to quench their thirst and sleep the rest of the day off.

This very handsome King Olbarnoti of the Ekunyai pride was seen walking away and looking for his brother Lolprit who was already seated in the open savannah plains and was photographed on an early morning game drive in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.

Most lionesses reproduce by the time they are four years of age. Lions do not mate at a specific time of year and the females are polyestrous.

Usually, the mother does not integrate herself and her cubs back into the pride until the cubs are six to eight weeks old. Sometimes this introduction to pride life occurs earlier, particularly if other lionesses have given birth at about the same time. When first introduced to the rest of the pride, lion cubs lack confidence when confronted with adults other than their mother. They soon begin to immerse themselves in the pride life, however, playing among themselves or attempting to initiate play with the adults.

King Morani of the "Four Musketeers" was lazing close by as his 3 cute cubs were playing with each other and pestering their mother for a feed but she was not is any mood. Photographed on an early morning game drive in Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.

This remarkable creation is housed in a large plastic bubble in Times Square. It aligned quite nicely with the sign for The Lion King in the background.

NYC.

It took some adjustments back and forth to get rid of the plastic haze in front of the character.

King Morani, one of the original Four Musketeers who use to rule over the famous Marsh Pride, with brothers Scarface, Hunter and Sikio

They came to fame when they took over the Marsh pride and many other prides in the area and were known for their prowess and savagery in their heydays.

They have since lost control over the Marsh Pride to the Six Pack Pride and have moved away to the Paradise plains.

King Morani was captured on an early morning game, sitting close to his elder brother Scarface, during a photography safari drive in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.

As we enter the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, I hope that we will focus on things that we've long taken for granted. We tell a lot of romanticized stories about this holiday and brush over some horrifying facts about our own nature and history. But I hope that we can agree that there are some essentials that most people take for granted. Let's be hungry for:

OXYGEN

CLEAN WATER

NUTRIENT DENSE FOOD

HEALTH

HONEST, RELIABLE COMPANIONSHIP

Let us not ask for MORE, since we have been a detriment to what we've inherited. Let us ask to change our minds, hearts, and ways, so that we GIVE BACK to those plants, animals, and other human primates that we've taken from.

Let's try to truly begin to live in love and harmony with the earth around us. We sure preach it. So how about being authentic and starting to live it?

May you each have a blessed and wonderful weekend!
