10 images in the set of wild flowers from our garden. I have added more than usual because they are for a flickr friend Judy who asked me where I bought the seeds from. These are to show some but not all the varieties that are in bloom at the moment.

Thanks to Willy 1943 who knew the name from this flower
Linum grandiflorum is a species of flax known by several common names, including flowering flax, red flax, scarlet flax, and crimson flax. It is native to Algeria, but it is known elsewhere in Northern Africa, Southern Europe and in several locations in North America as an introduced species
Native to Northern Africa, Scarlet Flax (linum grandiflorum) has been introduced to many locations. The wildflower seeds my niece and I scattered in my Lake Tahoe garden in late May included these beautiful flowers.
Happy Bokeh Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all. I'm still catching up!

I took a Butterfly Photography class sponsored by Desert Botanical Garden and taught by Joanne West. I learned a lot and practiced a lot. I really feel that I had improved significantly by the end of the class.
We had a classroom presentation followed by private hands-on practice in the Butterfly Pavilion.
I believe this is scarlet flax. Any correction will be appreciated.

Linum grandiflorum is a species of flax known by several common names, including flowering flax,[2] red flax, scarlet flax, and crimson flax. It is native to Algeria and Tunisia, but it is known elsewhere in Northern Africa, Southern Europe and in several locations in North America as an introduced species.[3][4][5] It is an annual herb producing an erect, branching stem lined with waxy, lance-shaped leaves 1 to 2 centimeters long. The inflorescence bears flowers on pedicels several centimeters long. The flower has 5 red petals each up to 3 centimeters long and stamens tipped with anthers bearing light blue pollen.
Desert Botanical Garden has an incredible collection of plants and cacti arranged in a beautiful park setting.
"Think the desert is all dirt and tumbleweeds? Think again. Desert Botanical Garden is home to thousands of species of cactus, trees and flowers from all around the world spread across 55 acres in Phoenix, Arizona."

This is a new wildflower for me. Found at White Rock lake in a blackland prairie section. I'd seen yellow flax before but scarlet flax is simply stunning. It is not native here but has been introduced and seems to do well. It is native to Algeria.
