I&M Rail Link SD9E 603 was resting in the small yard in Ottumwa after a day of kicking cars and building cuts for Kansas City and points north in 2001.

The Link was a short timer along the Ottumwa Subdivision; lasting only 5 years, it was a popular road to fan in the Midwest due to its eclectic EMD roster.

The 603 was built in 1955 for the Southern Pacific and made its way to serve the Midwest after a hard life slogging SP freights all over the West.

So.....I finally finished my Link custom! This custom has been on the works since I've gotten Procreate (2 months ago) and I have to say I'm REALLY proud of how it came out. He was painted with Apple Barrel, Premiere, and misc. paints and sculpted with Greenstuff and Procreate. I had to re-do the whole figure once, and the hair and eyes multiple times. I did a tiny bit of shading and I think it turned out pretty well. Parts of both the shield and sword were made with a cut up Amazon card and then had Lego pieces added along with Procreate. I also made a bow for Link, but it isn't pictured. I know there are some paint mistakes on their, and I also know the hair might not look good, but I don't care anymore as I'm "finished" with this figure! Comments and faves very appreciated. Would love to hear some feedback on this. Good day!

I've been trying to get lightning shots with the Nikon D300 with some success however i still have not been able to replicate what i was able to shoot with the old Nikon Coolpix 8700. Rather odd given i have so much control and features to assist with the D300. This is from earlier this summer prior to the "upgrade" to the D300 and is a shot of Jersey City, New Jersey looking north with New York City in the distant right.

Have a great weekend and I'll try and catch up with some interesting HDR shots over the weekend.

Amorphophallus titanum, the titan arum or Corpse flower, is a flowering plant in the family Araceae. It has a large unbranched inflorescence; a tall single leaf, branched like a tree; and a heavy tuber which enables the plant to produce the inflorescence. A. titanum is endemic to rainforests on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Because its flower blooms infrequently and only for a short period, it gives off a powerful scent of rotting flesh to attract pollinators. As a consequence, it is characterized as a carrion flower, earning it the names corpse flower or corpse plant.

After some years, when the tuber is sufficiently large, the titan arum develops an inflorescence instead of a leaf. This inflorescence can reach over 3 m (10 ft) in height. Like the related cuckoo pint and calla lily, it consists of a fragrant spadix of flowers wrapped by a spathe, which looks like a large petal. The spathe is deep green on the outside and dark burgundy red on the inside, with a deeply furrowed texture. The spadix is almost hollow and resembles a large baguette. Near the bottom of the spadix, hidden from view inside the sheath of the spathe, the spadix bears two rings of small flowers. The upper ring bears the male flowers and the lower ring is spangled with the bright red-orange carpels of female flowers. The female flowers open first, and the male flowers open a day or two later. This timing usually prevents the flower from self-pollinating.

As the spathe gradually opens, the spadix heats up to 37 °C (99 °F), and rhythmically releases a powerful odor to attract carrion insects which feed on or lay their eggs in rotting meat. The potency of the odor gradually increases from late evening until the middle of the night, when carrion beetles and flesh flies are active as pollinators, then tapers off towards morning. Analyses of chemicals released by the spadix show the stench includes dimethyl trisulfide (like limburger cheese), dimethyl disulfide (garlic), trimethylamine (rotting fish), isovaleric acid (sweaty socks), benzyl alcohol (sweet floral scent), phenol (like Chloraseptic), and indole (like feces). The odor is detectable up to a half mile (0.8 km) away. The inflorescence's deep red color and texture contribute to the illusion that the spathe is a piece of meat. During bloom, the tip of the spadix is roughly human body temperature, which helps the perfume volatilize. The heated spadix creates a micro-convection in the cool ambient air, enhancing the transport of the scent. The heat also helps to convince carrion-feeding insects that a dead body is present, attracting them to the inflorescence. S_2550

The row of linked icebergs looks a bit like a pre-historic monster. Has Nessie got competition? Perhaps temporary, but this ice-monster doesn´t last very long...The lagoon by the name of the Jökulsárlón, situated south of the biggest glacier in Europe, the Vatnajökull, is anyway one of the biggest tourist attractions of Iceland. Hopefully the global warming of the earth slows a little bit down, the size of the Vatnajökull shrinks every year, the lake gets bigger and bigger. The lake has now become the deepest lake in Iceland being 284 metres deep.

This is the Link I've been working on. Zazzles requested a pic. Should I sculpt the entire torso, or just the belt/strap?

I like capturing some ads against the backdrop of the city street, especially at night

It seemed appropriate to post something chilly now that Scotland's finished with its balmy 23 degree days of last week and is sunk beneath inches of snow again!

Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Christmas 1987 I believe. Before the introduction of various midibus routes in the late 80s and 90s, the London bus network has some quite large holes in it. Consequently for a few years Lewisham Council contracted London Buses, in the form of Selkent Travel, to operate some services from outlying parts of the borough to Lewisham shopping centre in the pre-Christmas period. BLs 36 and 81 did the honours. The previous year I had photographed an LS on this work. In 1989 Michael photographed a midibus on Centre Link work.

Nowadays these points are served by regular buses into Lewisham.

This is the terminus in Molesworth St, round the back of the shopping centre.

Mixed media collage, assemblage. Not sure if I have to somehow knock back the brown blob behind the pewter piece in the bottom right hand corner. I think it is a little too dense maybe.

A link to a lengthy and spectacular day - night transitional tiime-lapse of this to follow soon.

I visited the island of La Palma (Canary Islands) in Oct. 2015 to attend the "Astromaster" advanced landscape - astrophotography timelapse workshop.

This is a view at blue hour (about mid-way through the timelapse) looking into the Caldera de Taburiente from the rim not far from the Observatorio Roque de Los Muchachos, as we prepared for another astrophotography session. The winds were extremely strong and variable and so a long exposure just wasn't possible.
