Everything was going great guns until we launced off on the P3/4 linkup of the Long Climb. Instead of linking two pitches into one, we made three out of two. It added some excitement to the climb, for sure. I'm not sure how the guidebook could have explained it better...we just got off-route.

The engine that pulled the Union Pacific's representative for the transcontinental railroad linkup was built in New Jersey. (This replica was built in California, though.)
On weekends, they scoot this and the Central Pacific engine back and forth on some rails, shooting off the steam whistle, and causing general delight. Both engines were scrapped in the early 1900s for $1000.
