LNER class 800 Azuma no. 800102 heads south towards Holgate Junction on the York avoiding line on 29th December 2022 with 1E11, an Aberdeen to Kings Cross service. Due to extensive engineering works taking place during the Christmas/New Year period, trains were unable to enter the station from the north. Passengers for York were detrained at Northallerton for a bus service onwards.
The last Great Southern of the season is on its final run towards its Brisbane destination. Here it is seemingly soaring through the trees in the Border Ranges, while a decorous family of ducks provide some quirky character. 19 February 2023.

Direct rail operations 37800 Cassiopeia awaits a green light at Crewe pulling a new car set for the Elizabeth line in London
The Elizabeth Line will serve 41 stations and stretch across more than 60 miles from Reading and Heathrow in the west through tunnels in central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. Once it's up and running, it is expected to carry more than 200m passengers a year.
People spaced out in a queue, waiting on their turn to enter a local shop on Gorgie Road, as most shops are trying to control the number of people who are inside at any one time in order to maintain social distancing. What strange times we live in...
Amtrak's Empire Service plies the West Side Line just after sunset. The line was originally constructed for freight service by the Hudson River Railroad in 1849, and extended all the way to Chambers St. in far lower Manhattan. Shortly thereafter, the tracks were acquired by Cornelius Vanderbilt of the New York Central Railroad. The line served the industrial and dock areas of the lower west side and was the primary route for meat and produce into New York. To alleviate street level congestion, the section south from 34th St. was elevated in the 1920's. In later years, as the industries served by the freight rail diminished, the elevated section was abandoned and has since been converted into the very popular High Line Park. In the 1980s, the section of the West Side Line from 34th St. to the northern tip of Manhattan was acquired by Amtrak and converted to passenger use. With the construction of a new connection from the line to Penn Station, Amtrak was able to route trains using the Water Level Route to Penn Station (instead of Grand Central) and consolidate its Empire and NEC operations at Penn Station.

More of the SCL/RF&P Everglades -- 5 Photos
Here are 5 more shots of Trains 85 and 86, The Everglades. "The Everglades joined Atlantic Coast Line's timetable soon after the end of World War II ... the train was actually not new, simply the naming of the Washington to Jacksonville section of the Havana Special." The quote is from www.american-rails.com/everglades.html
Back in April 1987 I went on a bus hunting adventure which included a visit to Warrington where I photographed Crosville Bristol VRTs lined up in the Crosville depot.
Shame I didn't pay more attention to Bristol LD6G trainer G881 838AFM parked nearby.
One of my responsibilities at work is the condition of the runways and taxiways and ensuring compliance with CAA Regulations.
These require that all paved surfaces on an airports manoeuvring area are inspected on foot once a year - a walking inspection...
Last night was the night, but the weather was horrendous with fog and driving rain. We waited in the airports fire station for hours for an improvement but in the end cancelled - I will have to try again in a couple of weeks because now I'm off for a week in a cottage in the Brecon Beacons, middle of nowhere, no phone signal, no emails - bliss!
I managed to get a few shots - this is from the threshold of runway 27 with full CAT III Airfield Ground Lighting illuminated - and plenty of rain!

I love how you can clearly see the tree line in this image. The habitat above the area where you see trees here is too frigid for trees to survive. I also love the various colors in this image. This is another shot from Double Cut along the PIkes Peak Highway at about mile 14.5 of the 19 mile road and at an elevation of over 12,000 feet. It was very cold and windy up here, so was really glad I had a heavy sweatshirt available. Would I drive this road again? I can't say for sure. The down was much more scary than the up because of the steep grade, but I survived it without any problems, including not burning up my brakes. It wasn't that long ago that I didn't even drive in the mountains at all. I've come quite far since then I think.
