Playing with another hospital set-up, with three different lighting arrangements.
A single desk lamp trained over the skylights (with a sheet of paper over the LEDs to diffuse the strong light down a bit). The lamp is also providing the light behind the small windows in the doors on the far wall. There's a horizontal sliver of light leaking through that far wall; the roof, despite being two bricks thick, doesn't sit wholly flush with the top of the walls. You can see the same thing happening with the walls where they meet the floor tiles tiles. I don't expect it to be perfect, it's just interesting to note the quirks of the bricks.
I'd love to do a Nostromo/Sevastopol corridor in a similar way but that seems more intensive parts-wise. These hospital mocs are easy as they're all basic bricks. Nostromo has very specific shapes and lighting which could be tricky to achieve on this scale. Worth a shot.
As I landed in Denver, this was the sky walking out into the parking lot. I whipped out my camera like a cowboy would draw a pistol to shoot into these amazing golden hour clouds, which came on the heels of a huge storm...the same one that delayed my flight!
The allocated subject for me this week is Liminal Space. Number 1 a street in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, UK taken in 2017.
Liminal spaces - spaces in between - draw my eye, and a sense of possibility. What lies on the other side of the creek? What awaits in the water?
I took a trip out to a flooded area the other day, where huge quantities of water were flowing across the fields, beginning to dissolve the soil and draw it with it. It was quite magical to watch, and a little bit disturbing to be in it...
It happens in our lives to get lost, locked in a liminal space. How to get out is different for anybody, but the most important thing is to sit down and carefully evaluate all options without rushing and with a clear rational mindset.
So this makes a creepy counterpoint to the previous, sunny shot. Here my room light is off, window closed and I have two LED lights (each light has a cluster of three LEDs in the middle) on the roof, with some white paper in between to diffuse the bright light.
Definitely the mood is more eerie here, the diffused light makes everything look flat. And the blue in the light bley bricks seems to dominate more. Even the glossiness of the floor is dulled now and the whole scene feels stagnant? compared to the previous shot.
