Lilium (members of which are true lilies) is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers.

The flowers are large, often fragrant, and come in a wide range of colors including whites, yellows, oranges, pinks, reds and purples. Markings include spots and brush strokes. The plants are late spring- or summer-flowering. Flowers are borne in racemes or umbels at the tip of the stem, with six tepals spreading or reflexed, to give flowers varying from funnel shape to a "Turk's cap".

I found this Turk's Cap Lily (Türkenbund-Lilie, Lilium martagon) a couple of weeks ago while I was looking for some wild orchids. I was a few days late, so next year I'll try to capture her while she is still in her prime - but I think she is still beautiful.

Es gibt etwa 100 Lilien-Arten. Gartenlilien sind Zuchtformen, die aus Kreuzung verschiedener Wildarten hervorgegangen sind. Je nach Sonnenstand zeigt diese in unserem Garten ihre besonders kräftige Farbe. Eine Schwebfliege sucht in der Blüte nach Nahrung.

There are about 100 species of lilies. Garden lilies are cultivated forms that have emerged from crossing different wild species. Depending on the position of the sun, this lily shows its particularly strong color in our garden. A hoverfly searches for food in the flower.

Lilium Stargazer is a hybrid of the Oriential group.

Oriental lilies are known for their fragrant perfume and

They bloom mid-to late Summer.

Stagrazers are easy to grow and do best in the sunlight. They have a fast growth rate and should be planted in full sun and in well drained loamy or sandy soil.
