Francisco Domingos da Silva, nascido em 1910 (?), em Alto Tejo – AC, rabisca os seus primeiros desenhos a carvão e giz nas paredes de Fortaleza, principalmente na comunidade do Pirambu. De estilo inconfundível, Chico da Silva representou para o patrimônio artístico cearense uma verdadeira reinvenção da pintura através da sua simbologia, do seu colorido e de seu universo temático.
O artista nasceu em família humilde e não teve acesso aos estudos, o que, no entanto, não impediu seu trabalho de assumir várias dimensões artísticas. Descoberto na década de 40, após o artista plástico suíço Jean Pierre Chabloz deparar-se com seus muros e paredes de casas desenhados na Praia formosa, inicia-se nas artes plásticas com a técnica de pintura à guache.
Participou em 1943 das exposições coletivas do Salão de Abril e, em 1944, do III Salão Cearense de Pintura. Em 1945 expôs na galeria Askanasy, com Antônio Bandeira e Inimá de Paula, assim como na Bienal Latino-Americana de São Paulo. Em decorrência de sua amizade com Chabloz, suas obras transitaram o exterior de tal forma que, durante a década de 50, suas obras podiam ser encontradas em várias galerias da Europa.
Dentro do movimento artístico NAÏF, é considerado um “gênio primitivista” no Brasil. As características do seu trabalho remetem, segundo Jean Pierre Chabloz, a lendas amazônicas, recordações da infância, ritos e práticas mágicas, entre outros elementos transpostos poeticamente para a arte, através de símbolos que formam a distinção do seu Universo cultural. Sua arte teve grande aceitação coletiva, mediante sua evocação poética e seu estilo arcaico, assim referido pelo seu descobridor.
Após seu retorno da Europa no início da década de 1960, Chabloz apresenta Chico da Silva ao Reitor Antônio Martins Filho, sendo contratado, para desenvolver atividades no MAUC , entre 1961 e 1963. Em 1961, participa da exposição de instalação do Museu, com 6 guaches, segundo registrado no catálogo.
Nascido artisticamente no Ceará, Chico da Silva conta com uma sala permanente do MAUC, na qual a maior parte do acervo corresponde as obras que participaram e receberam a Menção Honrosa na Bienal de Veneza de 1966.
Por intermédio da Pró-Reitora de Extensão, Profª. Marcia Machado, em 2014, Vera Bezerra doou ao MAUC, uma coleção com 40 obras, todas guaches sobre cartão. O total de obras pertencentes a instituição hoje corresponde a um total de 78 telas, dentre as quais 12 quadros participaram da 33° Bienal de Veneza em 1966, recebendo o prêmio de “Menção Honrosa”.
O artista faleceu em 5 de dezembro de 1985, após passar por um período de turbulência na sua vida, quando, inclusive, foi internado. Considera-se ainda que há uma dívida da comunidade intelectual pela contribuição de Chico da Silva para a arte e para a cultura do Brasil.
São Luís é uma cidade no nordeste do Brasil, na ilha de São Luís, no Oceano Atlântico. No centro histórico da cidade encontra-se o bairro de Praia Grande, na área circundante da rua de Portugal, marcado por edifícios coloniais com azulejos distintos e varandas em ferro fundido. O Palácio dos Leões, onde reside o governador do estado, exibe arte e mobiliário franceses. Nas proximidades, encontra.se o grande Palácio La Ravardière, do século XVII.

Autoestrada internacional que chega a atingir uma altitude de 4.580 metros, percorre cenários belíssimos do Deserto do Atacama e dá acesso aos mais famosos pontos turísticos da região de Antofagasta.

There is a very strange and beautiful calmness that happens right before some of these events. A sharp contrast to the scene just a few hours ago when the floral, custom carpet, lighting, staging, and audio teams all scramble in harmonious synergy in a sort up unscripted ballet. To the untrained eye, this early part of the day can seem a bit caotic. It is actually. Eventually it all comes together though, and with any luck, just after the candles are lit, ……

Perfect…
Time to capture a little bit of this amazing environment the team created, a room that just 12 hours ago looked nothing like this and in another 8 hours will be restored back to its pristine condition. For now…if just for a brief few moments, the candles are lit, the room is clear, and I can get to wander around this place to appreciate our creation. Still amazes me, even after over 25 years in the biz, that this happens right in front of my eyes. The only trace of the process….the images….remain to help tell the story….

Sculptors of the 11th annual Driggs Snowscapes worked all week creating some incredible pieces of frigid art in anticipation of winning the Snowscapes 2023 Driggs Division Title Belt. I’d been sniffing around all week in preparation for what I’d be photographing come Friday night when the sculptors would lay their tools down at 10pm sharp- that’s when the judging began. Instead of starting my process that night, I chose to come back early the next morning – less foot traffic, plus I’d rather work early than late. I awoke at 2:30am Saturday, arrived downtown around 3:30am, and photographed until about 8:50am. Since the temperatures were steady in the upper single digits, I did have a few equipment malfunctions and the temps even drained my car key’s battery while in my pocket. I was able to work around the casualties, however it doubled my estimated time of completion. Aside from having a few pieces of gear being laid to rest, conditions were perfect. The snow falling was perfect. The sculptures were all perfect. No wind was perfect. The weather all week for the sculptors was perfect. Here is a shot of the winner from the event this year.

I thought this one was the underdog, mostly because it wasn’t near any entrances to the grounds – so, I thought it was easily lost in the shuffle. But man. I couldn’t wait to shoot this one. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to approach it, but I knew for damn sure I was going to light the inside area beneath the ice (duh!). I took a separate, slightly out of focus, exposure just for the fish and chose not to light the ground or any exterior area down low- I think that helped to sell the ‘being under water’ concept. Then I hit the back of the fisherman with an orange light, giving a sunset vibe. I also back-lit him with a white light for background separation. I back-lit all these sculptures and after I photographed this one, my collection of backlights stopped working. I’m glad they muscled through this sculpture’s session.
The Envy Nightlife Club, which is part of the Route 66 Casino located in Albuquerque, NM, was designed and manufactured by I-5 Design and Manufacture. The chain curtain, which is suspended over the bar, is illuminated from above with color-changing LED’s and also has an integrated design pattern in the chain itself. The soffit is lit with indirect cove lighting that produces a beautiful, soft glow, and is also fully programmable. To view more casino design, click here.
