Torpor (hibernation for Lesser Tenrecs) lasts for about 5 to 6 months during the winter (typically Sept/Oct through Feb/March). It is usually triggered by lower temperatures and/or seasonal changes in light, although it has been reported in those tenrecs kept with the same temperature and light schedule year-round, they will still stop eating and sleep. They tend to be colder during this time and will only wake occasionally to drink.

Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge

A Special (only for 10mins) Rainbow Illumination of Tokyo Tower

Diamond Veil and Ladmark Light Schedule

A symbol of Japan's post-war economic miracle, the 333-metre tower has been the centrepiece of a dozen novels and movies as well as 20 songs and a romantic spot for young lovers in the heart of the capital.

About 2.5 million people visit the tower each year, and more than 157 million have visited since it was opened to the public.

The new (referred to as New Tokyo Tower) 610.58m Tokyo Sky Tree tower is to be built in 2011 at Sumida, Tokyo.

Given time and a light schedule my preferred choice to the Edinburgh area is the A68 vice the A1 if driving. Not many buses once you leave Ponteland but the daily National Express service over the A68 still runs providing a life line to many in this remote area. The service is now the 534 running from Glasgow & Edinburgh down through the East borders to Newcastle and onto Leeds & Hull as shown by Parks of Hamilton KSK986 spoilt only by the garish Pride of Britain livery. This is Byrness near Otterburn with the now closed "Border Park Services" on the left, this was once the well known "first & last" services on this road and the site was recently sold at Auction so may have a new use shortly. The prices for fuel read.. Petrol 113 and diesel 117 if only !

Summary of a long night photographing the Milky Way (some will say I'm milking it!). All captured last weekend in Cap Blanc, Mallorca. Cap Blanc is a nice place with little light pollution (for now at least... 'cause the local government is planning to sell the military grounds around to promoters... So I fear that some day it'll be covered with villas and holiday rentals).

The video contains my first timelapse of the milky way, made with 165 individuals photos (a 25 sec exposure every 30 seconds).

I hadn't thought of the varying level of light from the lighthouse from shot to shot (hard to control for it unless one is prepared to take every picture manually and count time each picture on the lighthouse light schedule precisely...), so there is some flickering.

About three weeks ago, I went on a business trip to Dublin. Since returning I've been quite busy, and am still catching up on the photos. Here is another batch.

The first day of the conference was a very light schedule: just registration and an opening reception in the evening. Thus, I had all day for sightseeing. One of my main goals was to see the Book of Kells and the Long Hall of the Trinity College Library, which was stunning (but no photography allowed). However, over the course of my trip I ended up walking around Trinity quite a bit. I've included some other favorite shots in the comments.

Day 175.

About three weeks ago, I went on a business trip to Dublin. Since returning I've been quite busy, and am still catching up on the photos. Here is another batch.

The first day of the conference was a very light schedule: just registration and an opening reception in the evening. Thus, I had all day for sightseeing. I walked over quite a bit of central Dublin, hitting many of the highlights. One of the things I was most struck by was the public art: Dublin is full of interesting sculpture. One of the most striking and memorable was this memorial to the Irish Potato Famine (or Great Famine), titled simply 'Famine', by Rowen Gillespie.

There are a few other shots from the day in comments. I should get to uploading the remaining four days of my trip this week, and then I will be finally caught up (and can make my June mosaic).

The level of her mother’s trust to be able to give over her own daughter to us without ever having been in a hospital before is amazing to me. Michael Flynn, the anesthesiologist I worked with on this case, observed that she went to sleep without crying, even though she had revealed how scared she was.

Normally we aren’t able to take last-minute patients like this, but since Del and I had set a rather light schedule for our first day of surgery, it was possible to add Ocdulia on. We felt like it was important, especially because she and her family had come such a long way and it would be difficult for them to return next week or even next year.

Madison's annual Folk Ball was this past weekend. It is a mid-winter treat for dancers and musicians, who turn out by the hundreds for the event. There is a light schedule Friday night and Sunday, but the meat of it is on Saturday. The day is filled with workshops on such things as folk dances from such places as Albania, Macedonia, Greece, or the Balkans, and music from those same regions and others too. Participants offer donations for the workshop, savor the experience, then gather again that night for the Folk Ball. Held in Great Hall of the Memorial Union, a line-up of bands plays appropriate music, and the dancers get to try out all they learned earlier. There is something magical about witnessing 300 people performing a Transylvanian line dance, snaking and hopping their way through the jam-packed hall, blissed out or brow furrowed in concentration. What a treat!

2007 Canadian Warmblood gelding by Freestyle and out of a first premium mare (Major Won/Colibri). Standing 17 hands, with expressive and correct gaits and very balanced canter. Canter is his best gait, but his trot is beautiful too! Under saddle for about a year, this horse will be an upper level dressage horse, very willing, super quiet, and amateur friendly. A "keeper" but will sell to right home, this one is very special. In professional training since 2010, on a light schedule, allowing him to grow and mature.
