"The most common cause of a yellow sky is storm clouds. The clouds scatter the blue light coming from the sun, and this makes the light look yellow to us. Dust storms, pollen, and smoke in the atmosphere can also cause it to look yellow outside for the same reason: they scatter the blue light in the sky."

Another photo from Panama City Beach, FL. The lightning shows up amongst the clouds! Reminds me of how if we let God's light shine in our lives, the clouds of this world can not hide the Light!! Thanks for stopping by, and have a blessed week!!

The walls of Thessaloniki as we see them today are the result of construction, extension, and repair work that went on from the fourth century BC to the period of the Ottoman rule. They were originally 8 kilometres long. Unfortunately only 4 of them survive today..

I am obsessed with these green California hills. The sunset wasn't spectacular last night but there was that one brief moment when the light was sensational.

This is an old shot that I’ve tried with different tones, it’s been shadowing me for a while in my ‘view all’ page. Originally taken up on the heath in the fading winter afternoon light.

Have a good weekend everyone :)

From the MONOSHAPE series.

Burning light - Sunset at Winskill Stones with intense burning light of the sun's last rays, streaming onto the lone hawthorn tree and just catching the limestone pavement.

The cloud bank which had just moved in enveloped most of the sky except for a small portion on the western horizon with the setting sun streaming through this narrow gap. The cloud cover removed the blue scattered light normally seen with a cloudless sky at sunset, leaving the sun's almost red rays to dominate the scene with an unusual intensity.

Inspired by Pete Rowbottom, Wigan, UK who's sunset the previous day at Winskill flic.kr/p/PrjPWa convinced me it was a good idea to visit the stones at last light the following day. Thanks Pete!

I got chased out of this house by a pack of voracious mosquitos. They pursued me all the way back to the truck! In spite of my best efforts to fend them off, they got eight bites. They evidently preferred me over Wilbur as he strolled around unbothered.

First light of the morning arrives along the western side of the Wenatchee river in Tumwater Canyon.

"The canyon is estimated to be 3000' deep and nine miles long. In geology, most of the canyon rocks are of quartz diorite composition. The canyon is gradually sloped, and, as such, the highest point of Tumwater Canyon cannot be seen from the lowest point.

Despite its name appearing at first glance to be an English name or word, the canyon was actually given an Indian name. "Tumwater" is an Indian word meaning "strong water", or "falling water". The "tum" part of the word is derived from "tumtum", which in Chinook Indian jargon means the "sound of a beating heart". The name was chosen by former U.S. Forest Supervisor A.H. Sylvester many years ago, in reference to the Wenatchee River's rapids within Tumwater Canyon."
