Profile of an ornate Art Deco light fixture and flag on the outside of the building at 41 E.57th Street on a clear blue sky day in the City.
They say that light is the second most important part of a photo. Well, I was on the roof of a parking structure trying to get some shots of handrails and stuff, and the sunlight was ruining what I was attempting. So, I turned around and took a picture of the sun. It's a pretty cool gradient going from super white to a rich blue.
I bought a Pentax SF10 the other day, with a SMC-F 50mm/1.7 attached, for the amazing price of $8.09. This is from the test roll.
... with Kodak Gold 200, which is also a pretty good film.
I don't worry about people looking at me strangely at work when I'm taking this kind of shot as they are all convinced I'm completely nuts already.
Not a great photo, but a fun story with a happy ending.
While out on a photoshoot with my friend Kelley, we discovered this female House Finch had flown up inside the globe of this street lamp. The lamp was open from below allowing an unsuspecting bird to fly into the lamp and become entrapped. The bird was furiously trying to get out, was banging its wings against the globe in an attempt to get out. Her little heart was beating quickly and she was panicking. We couldn't walk away from a desperate bird, so we tried to get maintenance to help but they were gone for the day, so a shopkeeper allowed us to use her stepladder. I got up on the stepladder and checked for wiring that might harm me, which there was none. I removed a side pane from the globe, grasped the bird, she gave me a nibble in defense, and after a few more tries with my hand I coaxed her through the hole where she escaped and flew to the nearby tree. She was fine and unscathed from her experience in the lamppost light globe.
A moment of tranquility in the downstairs study of Narrapumelap, a French Gothic Mansion located outside Wickliffe, in western Victoria (www.narrapumelap.com.au/index.html).
This beautiful mansion, built in 1873, and its spectacular gardens are open to the general public this weekend, and are well worth a visit.
If you do make it, it's worth braving the cramped spiral staircase - and apparently, the bees - to enjoy the view from the uppermost reaches of the Gothic tower.

Designer's Lighting Forum NY: listened to the lighting designer chat about her decisions and the process
Odd little light fixtures hanging in the local coffee house. Kind of a challenge. Hmmmm how could I make this interesting?
