"The Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires city is considered one of the best theaters in the world. Recognized for its acoustics and for the artistic value of its construction, its current building turned 100 years old in 2008. Located between the streets of Cerrito, Viamonte, Tucumán and Libertad, in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires, it was inaugurated on May 25, 1908 with the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi.

This building replaces the old Teatro Colón built in front of the Plaza de Mayo where today stands the Banco Nación. The construction of the new building took around 20 years, its foundation stone was placed on May 25, 1890, with the intention of inaugurating it before October 12, 1892 coinciding with the fourth centenary of the discovery of America. The initial project belonged to the architect Francesco Tamburini and, upon his death in 1891, it was continued and modified by his partner, the architect Víctor Meano, author of the palace of the National Congress. The works advanced until 1894, but then stagnated for financial reasons. In 1904, after the death of Meano, the government commissioned the Belgian Jules Dormal to complete the work. Dormal introduced some structural modifications and definitely left his stamp on the French style decoration.

At the end of 1907, the first lease of the Teatro Colón was signed, although the works of completion of the building were delayed in relation to the date set for the inauguration of the hall, on May 25, 1908. In any case, in that date was the first opera performed in the main hall of the Theater by the Great Italian Lyric Company, although with some unfinished spaces of the building such as the Golden Hall and the iron canopies on Libertad and Cerrito streets." The Main Building was designed in stages and completed in 1937. It was designed by Paul Cret.

Spiffy light fixture

Mexico, MO

In the vestibule of the Research Building at a closed-down factory.

My wife installed a new ceiling fixture a couple of days ago. She is awesome! Plus the new fixture makes some cool looking shadows on the ceiling and the wall.

Shots of my parents' dining room light fixture. Just having fun with my camera.

It is also a really nice looking light.

...is one of the small details I love about my house.

Our Daily Challenge Topic Jan 31/11 Order or Orderly.

I spotted this light fixture in a restaurant tonight. There's a definite order lights, prisms, lights, prisms.

As found in the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco.

The lights are too high --- not my fault --- I used the electrical hole that was already there. I will head back to Home Depot to see if there is a light fixture with shades that are longer so as not to have so much space between the mirror and the lights.

If that doesn't work out I will start a painting protect to add something decorative to fill in the space between the mirror and the lights.

Yes, it is never-ending, but I will say that it is an improvement over the light bar with eight bulbs.

As part of my "to do" list for the house this year, one of the very little changes I wanted to make is the brass light fixture in my bathroom. In my opinion brass looks extremely dated so it is my effort to banish it all. I couldn't afford to replace the entire fixture at this time so for the price of a can of spray paint the brass has changed to a brushed nickel and matches the colors and feel of my bathroom much better. It's remarkable what a small change can make!

Never really looked at them.

This curious light fixture was part of a retaining wall at one of the locations where we were filming the movie 'Hooked'. Whether it was an actual working fixture as part of the wall at one time or if it was used after it broke I don't know. Look close and you can see the bulb still inside.

This is actually my kitchen light fixture. =D

There's something very sad about this. Just two weeks ago I was photographing some of the most beautiful sights in the world, and now I'm back to photographing... light fixtures--and calling them flying saucers. =D

Possibly designed by architect Benjamin D. Price, whose mail-order service for churches was used often in Mississippi, this church was built in 1885, and originally featured two entrances flanking a center window. This was altered in the early 1930s to its current center-entrance arrangement.

I went to an estate sale at this awesome house.. once a farmhouse.. now surrounded by apartments. Very beautiful place, inside and out.

On our recent family vacation to Walt Disney World in Florida we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge. While there I took some photos to try out some different techniques.

The aftermath of three weeks of weekends and evenings. The linoleum has been torn up and replaced with vinyl tile. The cabinets have been taken apart, sanded, painted, and put back together with new knobs and hinges. The walls have been painted a nice, warm green. The ceiling fan has been replaced with inexpensive track lighting (and hooked up to a switch). And the benches have been reupholstered with something a little less busy.

This was taken slightly before work was completed. There are canned goods under the cabinets on the left holding the new baseboard in place while the glue dries, and we're still waiting on a new surface decal from Blik for the far wall.
